PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Elder Abuse (XE) Program is designed to enhance the safety of elder and dependent adult victims of crime by providing direct services to victims, and establishing connections with elder justice service providers including: Adult Protective Services (APS), victim service providers, legal assistance providers,and long-term ombudsman programs. A primary goal is to establish a multidisciplinary community response and expand the communities’ capacity to serve this specific population.

Mandatory objectives are:information and referral about the criminal justice process, assistance with crime victim compensation benefits, emergency financial assistance, personal accompaniment, emergency shelter and supportive services, information regarding victim’s rights, victim advocacy,emotional support via counseling and support groups, crisis intervention, and other appropriate services.

The XE Program is supported with the federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) Victim Assistance Formula Grant Program, which is authorized by the Victims of Crime Act of 1984 as amended, 42 U.S.C. 10601, et seq.
