EIMA Show: a great outing for digital agriculture

The appointment is at Casalina di Deruta in the Perugia Province for a display of demonstrations of new generation machinery and technologies sponsored by the Italian federation of agricultural machinery manufacturers, FederUnacoma, with the Umbria trade fair agency, universities, training institutes and professional farmers’ organizations. Tractors and other machinery and equipment will be put to work under the control of satellite systems and avant-garde IT and electronic technologies. The organizers of the event have explained that precision agriculture makes it possible to achieve maximum yields with a smaller commitment of productivity factors to drastically reduce the impact of farm operations on the environment.

The 2017 EIMA Show is scheduled for July 28 and 29 in Casalina di Deruta, near Perugia, for the demonstration of machinery and equipment in the primary sector for precision farming. The event will feature tractors with computers aboard, satellite systems for mapping the land and pursuing geo-referential operations, Isobus systems, sensor and CPU systems for the collection of data on environment parameters in the fields of the Casalina farming agency. The farm, with excellent production and experimental facilities, is the property of the University of Perugia and managed by the Foundation of Agricultural Education in Perugia and specialized in crop rotation as well as viticulture, olive cultivation and livestock raising.

The show coming up is sponsored by the UmbriaFiere, Umbria Coldiretti, the University of Perugia, the Foundation of Agricultural Education in Perugia, the Center for Agricultural and Rural Development, Ce.S..AR. and FederUnacoma, the Italian federation of agricultural machinery manufacturers. The purpose of the event, targeted on farmers, contractors, agronomists and mechanization technicians, is to provide them with live demonstrations of the most advanced technologies for the scientific management of crop operations and productivity factors.

The organizers explained that monitoring data on the lay of the land, soil humidity, vegetation cover, climate and weather parameters and technical information on the interaction between the tractor and mounted or trailed implements is fundamental for increasing productivity of crops, reducing the impact of agricultural work on the environment, and is also basic for the European Union Agriculture 4.0 “Feeding the Next Generation”.

The EIMA Show is organized to ensure that every farm taking part will have its own demonstration plot and planning comparative demonstrations in the field for wheat and medicinal plant products harvesting. The companies involved include the world’s major tractor, machinery and implements manufacturers and leaders in the fields of CPUs and electronic and drone systems. A total of fifty companies are due to arrive for the EIMA Show demonstrations with more than 300 machines and models for numerous crowds from Umbria and all the other Italian regions.

Also planned are a festive full immersion in agricultural mechanics, welcome and food and drink facilities and a schedule of conferences handled by Coldiretti, the University of Perugia, MIRUMIR, the company organizing DronItaly, UNACMA, the Italian Agricultural Machinery Dealers Union, Top Con Agriculture and FederUnacoma for providing information on precision farming technologies, their applications for various farming models and regulatory issues and measures for supporting the development of digital agriculture.
