EIMA Agrimach fifth edition opens in New Delhi

The exposition of agricultural mechanization organized by FICCI and FederUnacoma began today in the Indian capital with a ceremony in which Indian and Italian authorities played parts. The three days of the exhibition and machinery trial demonstrations featured for the event underscores the great potential generated by Italian-Indian cooperation. Speaking at the inaugural conference was the Italian Minister of Agriculture, Maurizio Martina.

The fifth edition of the EIMA Agrimach international exposition of agricultural machinery and equipment staged on the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, IARI, campus in Pusa, near New Delhi, was opened this morning before a crowded audience attending the inaugural ceremony. This event was moderated by Mr. Vinay Mathur, the deputy secretary general of FICCI, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. The opening greeting was delivered by Pankaj R. Patel, general director of Cadila Healthcare who was followed by authoritative representatives of international institutions and from Italian enterprises. Taking the rostrum were the president of John Deere India, Satish Nadiger, the secretary of Indian Ministry of Agriculture Mechanization and Technology Department, Ashwani Kumar, the deputy secretary of the Indian Ministry of Agriculture, Jalaj Srivastava, the secretary of the same ministry, S. K. Pattanayak, and the deputy minister for Indian agriculture, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. In their comments, these authorities focused on the strategic role played by the mechanization of Indian agriculture and the commitment of institutions to support the development of the primary sector in the various regions of the subcontinent. Also taking part in the ceremony were leading Italian figures representing their country’s official side of the partnership with India. The Italian ambassador to New Delhi, Lorenzo Angeloni, empathized in his statement that EIMA Agrimach is the most outstanding example of cooperation between Italy and India and spoke of the way these effective relations can bear fruit. He went on to name Italy as a leader in prized agricultural productions as well as for the manufacture of agricultural machinery allowing the country to offer skills and experience for India. The Italian Minister of Agriculture, Maurizio Martina, delivering greetings to the Indian farmers attending the conference, stressed the objective of bringing all the world’s farmers together for improve their earnings and raising the value of their productions as a goal to pursue thanks to more widespread efficient mechanization. Minister Martina also recalled that many people from India are now involved in Italian agriculture and said part of the success of this sector is due to their labor.

The assembly was brought to a close by Alessandro Malavolti, the president of the Italian Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers Federation, FederUnacoma, who pointed out the ten years of cooperation behind Agrimach and the great advance of Indian agriculture over these years. He also affirmed that the success of the New Delhi exposition is associated with the specialization of the event allowing the manufacturing industries to exhibit their ranges of products to draw a public made up of farmers and especially business people as multipliers of business and interest for the event.

ICE, the Italian Trade Agency, has played a decisive role in the Italian-Indian partnership which has assigned privileged status to Italy in the development of technical and commercial activities for the Asian nation.

The Italian office in New Delhi, led by Francesco Pensabene, has set up meetings of Italian and Indian government and institution representatives, including Minister Martina and the ministers for Food Processing, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, and Agriculture Radha Mohan Singh. He also carried out economic and information document analyses for correctly monitoring the Indian market and cooperation opportunities for the two countries. Moreover, according to the ICE evaluation, agriculture and the agro-industry supply chains are strategic sectors for the economies of both countries, sectors in which their cooperation are excellent.
