Eighth Annual Mid-Atlantic Strategy Colloquium (MASC 8) and Doctoral Workshop
Call for Papers and Work-in-Progress
March 7-8, 2014
The strategic management research group at the University of Tennessee (Russell Crook, Annette Ranft, Rhonda Reger, Anne Smith & Dave Williams) is pleased to convene an exciting two-day conference dedicated to furthering research in the field of strategic management. The Annual Mid-Atlantic Strategy Colloquium (MASC)was founded at UNC andhas been hosted by a differentMid-Atlantic strategy group each year.
The concept is simple and compelling: a casual, low-key yet energizing, research-focused, developmentally-orientedmeeting to advance our collective scholarship and to build a stronger community of strategy scholars. A hallmark of MASC that differentiates it from similar mini-conferences is the high quality developmental feedback we provide to works-in-progress.

We are open to utilizing diverse methodologies and novel data sources from a wide variety of theoretical perspectives. Authors who wish to present their papers at the conference should electronically submit a copy of the paper, in the style guide of one of the major journals, and an abstract of 200 words or less. Only papers that not have been accepted for publication will be considered. We encourage papers that are under development for submission to journals, book chapters, and major conferences. Papers will be reviewed by an expert panel for inclusion in the program. We seek to be as inclusive as possible within the time constraints of the conference. Submit papers with the subject line: “MASC 8 Paper Submission” to Rhonda Reger, by January 24, 2014.
Very Early Stage Papers (“Strategy in the Rough”): Please submit 2 -10 page abstracts of your work including the topic and key research questions, the theoretical framework and model, proposed methods and results (if applicable) and expected contributions. Submit Work-in-Progress with the subject line: “MASC 8 Strategy in the Rough Submission” to, by January 24, 2014.
Focused Topic Conversations: We also encourage all participants to submit a proposal to host a focused topic conversation in around table format. Strategy is a diverse field and many strategy scholars in the Mid-Atlantic region feel isolated when they are the only member of their school’s faculty researching a particular topic or using a particular theoretical lens, methodology or data set. Focused topic conversations are aimed at providing an opportunity to meet and share with colleagues across the region to help you hone your ideas, to learn of other leading edge work in your sub-area, and to make connections with a larger set of colleagues than any single institution can provide. Focused Topic Conversation proposals should be 100 words or less. Submit focus topic proposals with the subject line: “MASC 8 Focused Topic Conversation Submission” to by January 24, 2014.
