Personal Development Plan

POSITION PURPOSE / Brief description of the position and purpose
  • Organise acute in-patient nursing services, ensuring best practice standards in patient care and efficient service provision
  • Provide a friendly and professional service to the consumer within a safe and therapeutic environment
  • Effectively manage human resources and finances within agreed budgets and following EGHS Policies and Procedures

KEY RESULT AREA (KRA): / PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
KRA 1
Leadership and Professional Practice / Demonstrates practice within the Vision, Mission and Values of EGHS.
  • Function in accordance with legislation, professional standards and practice guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively with all nursing staff, EGHS departments and outside services.
  • Leads, directs and supervises staff ensuring a high standard of care is delivered.
  • Addresses practices that are not consistent with practice guidelines, policies and procedures and evidence based practice.
  • In partnership with the NUM accepts the responsibility for the outcomes of nursing care practice in the facility.

KRA 2
Human Resources Management / Demonstrates application of knowledge to support quality health care, a competent workforce and a satisfying work environment for staff.
  • Manage work practices in accordance with award agreements, entitlements and recognised best practice.
  • Assist in the rostering and allocation of staff, ensuring unit is efficient and safe within budgetary and required staffing levels.

Support and maintain effective communication systems within the Unit

  • Ensure self and other staff comply EGHS health service policy regarding uniform and punctuality
  • Demonstrate an ability to resolve conflict
  • Promote and maintain an environment of teamwork and professionalism
  • Encourage continuing education and personal development including completion of annual mandatory education program.
  • Assist in management and participate in annual performance reviews and recruitment processes as directed by the NUM.

KRA 3
Business Management / Demonstrates leadership and application of knowledge to operate within the agreed budget for the Department and facility and the organisation’s Financial Management framework.
  • Demonstrates efficient use of resources and maintaining within budget levels.

Demonstrate an awareness of the financial management framework and budgetary issues for the department

  • Ensure identified care is documented clearly and reviewed regularly.
  • To delegate responsibility andappropriately and effectively and within Delegations of Authority guidelines.

KRA 4
Quality Governance / Demonstrates understanding, application of knowledge and implementation of the organisation’s clinical governance framework to ensure the provision of high quality health care through continuous improvement.
  • Actively promote and participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Comply with EGHS integrated risk management framework.
  • Actively participate in the monitoring and achieving of standards and accreditations.

KRA 5
Learning Organisation / Demonstrates commitment to personal and professional development and participate as an active member of a team.

Facilitate in the orientation of staff as directed by the Unit Manager or delegate

Support the professional growth and development of staff within the department

  • Maintain currency of knowledge through attendance and participation in relevant courses, conference, seminars and educational opportunities.
  • Participate in the review of ones own professional development annually, with the Manager, identifying key areas for professional and personal growth
  • Actively participate in professional development opportunities internally and externally

KRA 6
Information Management / Demonstrates knowledge and application of skills to ensure the organisation’s information management goals are met.
  • Regularly review own and service communications through Emails, Intranet and other resources to keep abreast of changes and information.
  • Participate in planning, implementation and management of information and communication technology.
  • Demonstrate ability to critically analyse and effectively utilise data to support and improve care and service delivery.

KRA 7
Organisational Expectations / Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of legislation and maintenance of a safe environment for employees, consumers and visitors
Facilities and Equipment
  • Responsible for the reporting of any malfunctioning equipment and/or facility to the manager.
Occupational Health and Safety
  • Ensure compliance culture with “No Lift”.
  • Attendance at Mandatory in-service sessions on emergency procedures.
  • Accident/incidents are appropriately documented in timely manner and relevant preventative action taken.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA: / Essential: (including minimum qualifications)
  • Current Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
  • Demonstrated advanced acute clinical nursing skills including the ability to undertake detailed assessments within scope of practice.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication, coordination and organisational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated developing leadership and management skills.
  • Experience in management of human resources.
Desirable:
  • Post Graduate Qualification or working towards.
