Marta Hernandez, Treasurer

Carol Cortes, Membership

It’s that time of the year again. Your dues are due now! The dues are $15.00 for the county (MDCREA) and $30.00 for the state (FREA). This is a total of$45.00 when you join both the county and state organizations. We stronglyencourage all our members to join both. You can write one check to MDCREA and mail itto the address given below. Please do not wait … get them in early! Our treasurer will forward your FREA dues to the state who,in turn, will then send you your state membership card.

If you are already a member and have not sent in your dues for 2011 – 2012, why haven’t you? In an effort to watch our expenses, we are no longer sending out the Membership Payment Card. Perhaps that is why you have not renewed your membership. WE NEED YOU!!! Your membership and voice are needed to insure the importance and value of our organization, especially at the legislative level. Our membership each year determines the number of delegates we are entitled to have at the state convention each year.

If you have been using our website then you also know that you can pay your annual dues using PayPal. Check our website for specific instructions on how to do it. miamidcrea.org

Keep Those Tabs Coming

LITERACY PROJECT – Keep Those Tabs Coming!

As a community service to Ronald McDonald House, MDCREA has collected the pull tabs from soup, fruit, cat and dog food, and cola cans as part of our Literacy Project. The collections thus far have been over-whelming. So far we have collected over 100 pounds to send to Ronald McDonald House. The tabs are sold to provide extra funds to be used by the families for food, paper goods and other needed items for the families having an extended stay at the hospital. We continue to receive recognition from Ronald McDonald House in appreciation of our contribution.

Are you a state member but not DCREA?

Are you a State Member but not a member of your local unitMDCREA? If the answer is YES, then we are looking for you. We have over seventy (70) members who belong to the State FREA but not MDCREA. If you are one of those members you need to know that MDCREA still has to pay the State for your share of the FREA Scholarship Fund. Your local dues for MDCREA are only $15.00 and really helps us to defray this extra cost. FREA is moving in the direction of unified dues in the future and soon you will have no choice! Please give serious consideration to joiningMDCREA for 2011-2012.

TRAVEL AND EXTEND YOUR CERTIFICATE AT THE SAME TIME!
This is an exciting possibility for those of us who love to travel and still want to keep their Florida certificate up-to-date.

The Miami-Dade County Retired Educators Association in conjunction with NovaSoutheastern University and Express Travel is exploring the possibility of offering courses for extension of the Florida certificate while traveling.

To that end, a survey has been created to determine interest and other factors. Below is the survey link.

Please...would you? Your opinion matters as it will tell us whether to forge ahead with this venture or not. Just click on the link above to answer a very brief survey...will not take more than 3 minutes of your time.

Thanks!
