4-H Educational Display Contest

Awards for each level: All entries will receive ribbons and cash prizes will be given at the Annual District Awards Program

  • Cloverbuds (K-2) will receive an $8.00 gift certificate
  • Jr. (Grades 3-5),Intermediate (6-8), Sr. (9-12)
  • First Prize: $20; Second Prize: $15; Third Prize: $10; Fourth: $5.

If your display is about Jr. Market Livestock, it will count as one of the four required workshops.

Educational Display Divisions, Division Title, Class and Division are in the fair book. Here are the most common ones:

  • Division 6 Sewing Class H—Clothing Educational Display
  • Division 8HousingClass A—Consumer Education; Class B—Home Furnishing Ed. Display; Class C—Family Life/Home Management Educational Display
  • Division 9Biological Science(Ed. Displays to include livestock, horse, pets, other biological topics )Class A—Animal and Veterinary Science; Class B—Poultry Science/Embryology; Class C—Entomology and Bees; Class D—Aquatic and Marine Science; Class F—Food and Meat Science; Class G—Plant Science.
  • Division 10Physical, Technical, Mechanical Science--Class A—Aerospace, Automotive, Bicycle, Computer, Electronics, Engines, GPS/GIS; Class B—Wood Science.
  • Division 11 Environmental Ed. And Earth Science—Class A—Forest, Rangeland, Wildlife, Fisheries; Class B—Outdoor Education, Shooting Sports; Class C—Earth, Energy and Recycling; Class D—Agriculture in the classroom.
  • Division 15—Personal Development—Class A—Civic Engagement/Citizenship and Community Service; Class B—Leadership and Personal Development (This category should be used if none of the above divisions work for you).

  • Division 22 Foods Class F—4-H Other Food Preperation/ Educational Display

Size of displays: limited to 36”x 36”x18” (front to back) and MUST BE FREE STANDING.

*May include pictures, models, diagrams or actual articles; may be 3 dimensional ora notebook

Displays show and explain something the 4-H member has made, done or learned. Attach member’s name to each piece of the display. Examples: why wool shrinks, why bread rises, safe use of tools, parts of a small engine, bee communication. Explanations should include how the exhibit was made or what was done in the project; what the member learned by doing the project and the usefulness of the information.

Three criteria used in judging educational display:

  • Information: Source(s); presented & communicated accurately, clearly 50%
  • Educational Value: Appropriate to member’s interests, abilities, skill 30%
  • Workmanship: Eye catching and attractive, shows originality, neatness, spelling, easy to read or see. Appropriate to member’s age and ability 20%
