DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

The Department of Education, Faculty of Adhunik Gyan Vigyan is an important unit of the Vidyapeetha. At present, this faculty consists of members from both traditional and modern areas of knowledge. Prof. Nagendra Jha is the Head and Dean of the Education Department. This faculty conducts courses for higher studies i.e. Shiksha Shastri (B.Ed.), Shiksha Acharya (M.Ed.) and Vidyavaridhi (Ph.D.). Students have been admitted in B.Ed. & M.Ed. courses based on All India Combined Entrance Test conducted by Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, New Delhi. This was the first combined entrance test organized at various centres spread all over the country. The students of Shiksha Shastri (B.Ed.) Course are trained for teaching in Sanskrit language and ancient subjects like Sahitya, Darshan and Jyotish etc. with modern subjects at school level. Students of Shiksha Shastri (B.Ed.) are also taught Computer Subject. Shiksha Acharya (M.Ed.) Course is a teacher educator’s course where students are prepared to teach teachers at different levels with dissertation as one compulsory paper. The dissertation works of Shiksha Acharya (M.Ed.) are specially based on different aspects of education in Indian ancient perspective and modern perspective such as problems of educational administration, current policies on education, special education, philosophical, psychological and sociological aspects of education, innovative teaching and analysis of Indian literature from the point of teaching and learning. Vishishta Acharya (M.Phil) course is also started from this session which prepares students for Ph.D/ Research work. Vidyavaridhi (Ph.D.) students do their research work on different areas of traditional and modern education. Contribution of the members of faculty has been given hereunder in brief.

Sanskrit Bharti, New Delhi organized 10 days workshop on Sanskrit Sambhashan from 10th May to 20th May, 2011 in the department. Professor R.P.Pathak, Dr. Rachan Verma Mohan, Dr. Rajani Joshi Choudhary, Dr. Kusum, Dr. Vimlesh Sharma, Dr. Minakshi Mishra and Dr. Amita Pandey Bhardwaj attended this workshop.

A workshop on Designing of Curriculum of M.Phil. was organized by the department on 15th Sep. 2011. Faculty members designed the syllabus of different papers of M.Phil course in the guidance of Prof. K.P.Pandey.

An extension lecture on ‘Research Methodology’ by Prof. R.P.Bhatnagar, University of Meerut was organized by the department on 25th Nov. 2011. All the faculty members attended this lecture.

In this session department has also organized National Seminar on the topic ‘Changing Scenario of Teacher Education’ on 15th – 17th Feb., 2012. Prof. Nagenara Jha gave welcome speech. Prof. Bhaskar Mishra delivered special lecture on changing scenario of teacher education. Rest of the faculty members participated actively and presented their papers.

Activities Organized by the Department for B.Ed. Course:

The Department of Education, being a Teachers Training Department organizes various activities that are necessary to inculcate sense of values and professional ethics among the students. Like previous year, this year department organized various activities, which are as follows:

The new session was inaugurated by the Head and Dean Prof. Nagendra Jha in July, 2011 and the students were addressed by him.

(i) Orientation of Students

Inauguration programme was followed by orientation programme. In this programme the students of B.Ed. and M.Ed. were given orientation about their compulsory and optional theory papers. The B.Ed. students were specially oriented about their practice-teaching while M.Ed. students were oriented about their dissertations.

(ii) First Aid Training

Like previous years, the students were given first-aid training from 21.02.2012 to 29.02.2012. During this year’s first aid training, the students were taught about the theoretical aspects of human body structure and practical training which was considered necessary during accidents and also during unforeseen circumstances. This training camp was organized by Red Cross Society.

(iii) Sanskrit Sambhashan

In order to meet the necessity of teaching in Sanskrit Language in Sanskrit Universities, the department organized Sanskrit speaking classes for the students. A five day course for Sanskrit Sambhashan was organized from 16.08.2011 to 23.08.2011.

(iv) Educational Tour

To develop managerial and organizing skills, the department organized study tour. A study tour was organized on 04.04.2012 in which all the students of B.Ed. and M.Ed. and the teaching staff visited National Science Centre and Akshardham Temple.

(v) Micro- Teaching

Being a training department, the students of B.Ed., before starting the actual teaching practice in schools were prepared for teaching. Teaching skills were developed through micro teaching sessions from 01.09.2011 to 09.09.2011. During micro-teaching, the students were given the following sessions:

(I) Knowledge acquisition session

(II) Skill acquisition session

(III) Presentation session

(vi) Teaching Practice

The students of B.Ed. are required to teach 40 lessons of different modern subjects and Sanskrit in government schools of South Delhi. Accordingly, teaching-training schedule was organized and students of B.Ed. were engaged in teaching of school students in various schools of South Delhi. All the students of B.Ed. took part in all the extra-curricular activities of schools and presented their report.

(vii) Foundation Course in Women Studies

A ten days foundation course in women studies was organized for B.Ed. students by Centre for Women’s Studies of the Vidyapeetha.

(viii) Scout & Guide Training

The Scout & Guide is a compulsory training for the Shiksha-Shastri students. This training is given to the B.Ed. students so that the society can get benefited from them. This training is imparted by the Delhi State Scout and Guide in their own camping ground, which was held as day and night camp. In the session 2011-12 this training was given to 210 students of B.Ed. from 17.12.2011to 23.12.2011 at New Ashok Nagar and Noida U.P. under the supervision of Sh. Manoj Kumar Meena, Assistant Professor, Physical Education of the Vidyapeetha. At the end of the training, the trainees were initiated into the scout and guide movement by the officers of same movement. The trainees were also given certificates after completion of their successful training.

(ix) Audio Visual Aids Preparation

The students of B.Ed. prepared audio- visual aids for presentation of their lesson plans throughout teaching practice.

Activities Organized by the Department for M.Ed. Course:

(i)Weekly Seminar

Seminars are organized every week for enhancing the competence. The topics for seminar were announced in advance. Each student had to present three papers in the academic session. All the arrangements regarding the organization were done by the students under the guidance of their teachers. Reports were prepared after successful completion of every seminar.

(ii) Sessional Activities

Activities were performed by the students of M.Ed. as per their syllabus this year.

(iii) Supervision of B.Ed. students

The students were allotted different secondary schools for the supervision of B.Ed. students. After completing supervision twice in a week, all students submitted their reports in the department.

(iv) Profile of School

The students of M.Ed. presented their observation and critical analysis of the school regarding staff pattern, time table and the management of the school.

(v) Field Activities

The M.Ed. students also collected data for their dissertations from different secondary schools.
