The Educational and Attendance Welfare Officershould supportthe school vision that all learners will achieve, within the subject, their academic, personal and social potential within a technologically rich environment supported by strong mini school principles of equality, achievement and pride within a framework that reflects the ECM agenda.

Within the context of the school’s aims and policies, the Educational and Attendance Welfare Officer willimplement subject policies, plans, targets and practices.

General

Home visits to low attendees and school refusers.

Liaise with mini school information managers

Assist and monitor internal and external truancy.

Parental appointments within school focusing on attendance and dealing with the full procedures up to court.

Responsible for all admissions enquiries including the local authority.

Liaise and work alongside the Family Engagement Officer to support vulnerable families.

Support the school by implementing, monitoring and evaluating strands within the school Improvement Plan.

Support and provide data for the School Improvement Plan.

Assist in the preparation and maintaining the learning environment and the materials used therein.

Support the process of the appointment of new staff.

Academic, Personal and Social

Be responsible for the progress of a small group of students in order to achieve school targets ie National Curriculum/GCSE levels, functional skills etc.

Supervise the students whilst they complete work in accordance with the school policy including: whole class, small groups and 1:1 sessions in either curricular, extra-curricular time or covering colleagues.

Prepare and maintain written records and be responsible for recording information about identified students as requested.

Coach and mentor staff in order to develop their skills and knowledge.

Coach and mentor students in order to develop their skills and knowledge.

Assist with the management of student behaviour.

Ensure that all new students’ data is accurate.

Technological

Take a role in the development of the new and emerging technologies to enhance and extend the learning experience of students within the school.

Contribute to the direction of the Technology Specialism.

Keep up to date with technology.

Act as an advocate for the specialism.

Community

Support a curriculum which takes account of the richness and diversity of the school.

Support the development of learning experiences for students which are linked into and integrated with the wider community through IUS lead and mini schools.

Support a range of community based learning experiences.

To work in partnership with outside agencies in providing for academic, spiritual, moral, social, emotional and cultural wellbeing of students and their families.

Promote and support opportunities to invite, community figures, business or other organisations into the mini school to enhance and enrich the school and its value to the wider community.

Support and enable IUS areas so that the mini school can offer appropriate extended provision that meets the needs of all learners.

Reflect Pent Valley’s required standard of personal conduct, communication and presentation; adopting the personal responsibility charter.

The post holder may be required from time to time to undertake other duties as may be reasonably expected, without changing the general character of the duties or level of responsibility entailed.

As this is a new role and the whole role is yet to be defined, part of the successful candidates application will be to articulate a vision.
