Education Department Organization Chart & Position Duties

Chair—Advance university and department missions; mentor and advise junior faculty; manage curriculum, curriculum revision and semester schedules; write tenure and promotion files; review major and minor files; respond to student concerns regarding faculty and the major; serve as spokesperson and advocate for department faculty and students including representing their needs and representing the department at admissions events and other university events; serve as link between department and administration; manage department budget; help facilitate and arrange colloquia. Specific to the Education department—duties include coordinating program development and delivery with the Director of Graduate Studies, maintaining and updating the department on accreditation & program improvement process with the Coordinator of Accreditation & Program improvement; work in coordination with the Director of Teacher Licensure to assure that Education major & minor requirements meet the Ohio Department of Education expectations; serve as the university representative to the Ohio Association of Private Colleges of Teacher Education.

Director of Graduate Studies in Education—Oversees the graduate program operations; allocate faculty & staff with the Department chair, mentor and advise adjunct faculty; manage graduate curriculum, curriculum revision and semester schedules; oversee curriculum assessment at the graduate level including refinement of admission policies and policies that affect thesis evaluation; respond to graduate student concerns regarding faculty; serve as spokesperson and advocate for the graduate program; representing the graduate program at university meetings and events; serve as link between department and administration; manage graduate program budget; establish outreach with the local school districts for programming and course offerings.

Director of Teacher Licensure—Oversees the assessment processes connected to state level requirements such as recommendations for licensure and the administration and review of state licensure exams; reviews transcripts and transfer courses regarding licensure specific requirements, assists the department in aligning and selecting university course offerings to specific licensure expectations across all licensure program areas; design and delivery informational sessions for faculty and students regarding the licensure process.

Director of Student Teaching & Field Placement—Leads the collaborative effort to determine and arranges placements for clinical practice (student teaching & course field experiences); coordinates with faculty the evaluation and assessment of student performance and placements; corresponds with district and school partnerships; reviews teacher candidate placements for diversity, interviews candidates prior to the student teaching placement; for department minors, s/he seeks the major department recommendations as an additional means of determining the content readiness of the candidate; arranges orientations for teacher candidates, university supervisors, cooperating teachers, & district administrators.

Coordinator of Accreditation & Program Improvement (CAPI) formerly known as the Director of Program Approval—Oversees assessment and program improvement activities across the department for the purposes of program development and evaluation, accreditation, and institutional effectiveness; coordinates ongoing data collection and analysis, and data-informed program changes to maintain accreditation by NCATE/CAEP, and to meet standards/requirements of the Ohio Board of Regents, and the Higher Learning Commission; In particular, this position works collaboratively with the Chair of the Education Department, Director of Graduate Studies, faculty, and administration to develop, implement, and evaluate the assessment/ accreditation plan for the education unit; and manages the design and implementation of systems for collecting, analyzing, and reporting data related to candidate achievement and learning, program performance, and institutional effectiveness. In addition, the coordinator had teaching & academic advising load.

Administrative Assistant—Supports faculty and department chair including, but not limited to: Serve as the first public face of the department, assist in managing class schedule, room schedule and curriculum implementation, manage student workers, provides creative assistance developing and distributing advertising materials programs and other department events, works with chair to manage department budget, answers and directs calls, maintain department files; assist individual faculty as duties allow

Academic Department Assistant—Supports the department chair, the director of licensure, and the director of student teaching & field placement. Responsibilities include entering teaching licensure data, establishing and maintaining student placement files, managing assessment data, assisting with state and national reports; coordinating the Teacher Placement Office and assists teacher candidates as they search for teaching positions; manages student workers. In addition, this position coordinates with university computing for design & maintenance of the TaskStream data platform.
