EDNA A. WILLMS SCHOLARSHIP FACT SHEET

SCHOLARSHIP TRUST

The Edna A. Willms Scholarship is made possible through the generosity of Edna A. Willms, who was a lifelong resident of Iroquois county, Illinois. The scholarship is funded through a trust created by her will. The trust is administered by three trustees who are the President of the Prospect Bank of Gilman, The Pastor of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Crescent City, and the Principal of the Iroquois West High School.

Eligibility

One scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating senior from a high school in Iroquois County, to be used for college expenses, nursing school, trade school, or any other educational training beyond high school. If payment of the scholarship is made directly to the recipient (rather than to the institution of higher learning), the Trustees will require proof that he or she has used the scholarship funds for the intended purpose. If such proof is not provided, the recipient will be obligated to immediately return the funds to the Trustees.

Amount of Scholarship

The Scholarship each year will be in an amount of not less than $1,000.00. If the net income from the trust for that year exceeds $1,000.00, the amount of the scholarship will be greater.

Basis of Selections

Academic achievement and financial need will be the primary criteria for awarding scholarships. Other factors such as character and involvement in school activities, volunteer activities, and community service may also be considered.

Application Forms

Application forms will be sent each year to the guidance counselor of each of the high schools in Iroquois County. Applications may be competed by qualifying seniors at any time on or after March 1st of the applicant’s senior year and must be received by the trustees not later than May 1st of that year. A letter of recommendation signed by a teacher, principal or other adult who knows the applicant well shall be submitted with the application form. Applications should be sent to:
