Purpose of the Role:
This is a senior post within External Relations, responsible for the management of all aspects of UCAS/UTT admissions to the University and with overall responsibility within Recruitment and Admissions for visa processing at all study levels. The post-holder operates at a strategic level, developing and implementing admissions policies and procedures and relevant systems to enable the University to achieve its student intake objectives in line with Global Strategy 2020.
Main Responsibilities / % time per year1. / Strategic Admissions Planning, Analysis and Management
Support the University in achieving its admissions targets by:
-developing and implementing admissions policies and procedures that are fair and transparent and are responsive to external changes in policy and legislation
-developing and implementing annual operational plans to ensure the University’s undergraduate student recruitment aims and priorities are met
-providing support to academic Faculties/Schools/Departments
-monitoring, analysing and reporting regularly on UCAS/UTT admissions to the university
-monitoring the effectiveness of UCAS/UTT admissions activities and visa processing activities in order to identify and implement further service enhancements
ensuring that admissions activities are underpinned by an informed and robust knowledge and evidence base / 40%
2. / Leadership
Lead, manage, motivate and develop the team responsible for UCAS/UTT admissions activities to ensure an excellent level of customer service in accordance with specified service levels and to create a positive and supportive working environment. This includes planning and organising the work of the members of the team and setting and reviewing targets.
Manage personnel requirements of the team including recruitment, performance review and staff development. / 30%
3. / Support
Advise and support admissions staff and develop appropriate training for staff to ensure they have the necessary knowledge and skills. Work in collaboration with colleagues in other Professional Service Departments to this end.
4. / Representation
Contribute to UCAS/UTT admissions developments in higher education within the region, nationally and internationally in order to improve the service both internally and externally. Act as the University’s UCAS/UTT Correspondent to receive and disseminate information to relevant staff within the university and to convey to UCAS the University’s views on relevant policy and operational matters. / 10%

Manage the data in the Admissions systems to lead the development of process enhancements including IT systems and communications with applicants to ensure efficient and effective processes that provide an exemplary level of service to both internal and external stakeholders. / 5%
6. / Fee Status
Adjudicate on tuition fee status cases and investigate appeals against tuition fee classification. / 1%
7. / Other Responsibilities
Act as a senior member of the Recruitment and Admissions team, undertaking specific responsibilities as requested and contributing strategically to senior team meetings and reviews. Chair relevant team meetings and working groups. Undertake ad hoc projects and duties required commensurate with the level of the post to contribute to the broader aims of the Registrar’s Department. / 4%
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Essential / DesirableQualifications/ Education / First degree, or equivalent qualification and proven track record of relevant work experience for example in a managing a large, diverse team in an educational setting
or
A proven track record of extensive relevant work experience demonstrating a deep and specialised knowledge of student administration systems
and
Substantial experience in the Higher Education sector
Skills/Training / Proven ability to lead a team, co-ordinate, guide and motivate others
Ability to think strategically, influence policy-making and manage change in systems and procedures
Well-developed analytical and numerical skills including the ability to analyse statistics, identify trends and present complex qualitative and quantitative information concisely for a variety of audiences
Ability to interact confidently and easily with prospective and current students, their parents and advisers and academic and support staff as well as members of University senior management
Well-developed organisational, time and project management skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure, to tight deadlines and with competing priorities

Experience / Significant professional experience in Higher Education administration, with particular emphasis on student-based administrative processes
Experience of leading, managing and developing staff
Experience of developing innovative solutions and practical implementation for strategic change / Extensive experience in undergraduate/UTT admissions
Chairing committees and working groups
Statutory/Legal / Detailed knowledge of relevant legislation including Education (Fees and Awards) Regulations 1997, Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act, Equality Act and Home Office Points Based Immigration system
