MEGT Position Description Education/Ability English Teacher
Objectives of the Division:
The Education Division:
- delivers high quality education and training services to MEGT Institute and Ability English clients

Objectives of the Position:
Thepurpose of this role is to enhance the students’ learning experience by delivering and assessing quality, compliant and engaging classes that address the needs of the student and comply with all Ability English, MEGT and various regulating bodies, policies, procedures and compliance requirements.
Relationships:
This role reports directly to the Academic (Education) Manager, however also liaises with:
- Campus Manager
- Academic Coordinator
- Student Services Officer
- fellow trainers
- students

- a good ear for pronunciation errors and ability to error correct preferable
Qualifications, Skills and Attributes:
- Bachelor and/or Masters Degree from a recognised institution in Australia, the UK, the US, New Zealand, Canada, or South Africa
- CELTA or equivalent teaching qualification specific to teaching English to Speakers of Other or Foreign Languages from a recognised institution
- meet the requirements of working with children criteria
Responsibilities & Duties
Objectives
- to provide students of ABILITY English with high quality and value-added English language tuition
- to enable students to develop communicative competence in English by teaching all necessary
communicative skills within a contextual framework
Basic Job Function
- teaching accredited English language courses 20 hours per week or pro rata as per contract.
- performing associated administrative duties
- contributing to the College’s ongoing development of curricula and resources
Responsibilities of the ELICOS Teacher
In relation to teaching
- teach face-to-face hours as per contract (including preparation and marking)
- facilitate student learning in all language skills areas
- refer students to additional materials
- conduct evaluations and assess, mark, and record outcomes
- provide constructive feedback on student’s work
- prepare end of course English proficiency level checks
- be observed by trainee teachers and others
- guide students on their academic progression and recommend further study within Ability
In relation to administration
- record student attendance
- attend staff meetingsand training as requested
- maintain accurate records of teaching activities
- participate in team work within the department
- maintain a tidy classroom
In relation to marketing
- cross selling of Ability courses
- ensure a high standard of profession behaviour and personal presentation
Key Performance Indicators:
- all assessments and results completed, entered and submitted to relevant administration by due date
- all diaries and class rolls completed correctly and by due date
- Positive student feedback with 80% and above rating on the Student Satisfaction Survey, this is based on the Sydney Student Survey that is run in week 6 and 12 of each term
- classroom management (punctuality, cleanliness, student engagement andinteraction)
- compliance with Ability English standards, procedures, policies and directions
- compliance with Duties and Responsibilities as outlined above.
Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Responsibilities:
All staff are required to take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of other personnel who may be affected by their conduct.
Working with Children Check
All staff will be required to undertake a State/Territory Working with Children Check.
