Tuesday 2nd August

44 Members and 3 guests heard an address from Jenny Lang, who has been a volunteer guide at the Botanic Gardens since 2002. Introduced by chair of the day Lisa Lowcock, Jenny filled us in on the history of the gardens and then took us on a visual tour. She and other volunteers conduct interesting walks around the gardens and anyone interested can avail themselves of these.

Notes of Interest-

Club directories are available at the front desk for all members, or can be obtained from Michael Cariss.

The club forum will be held on Tuesday 16th August at Fredericks 6.30pm for 7pm.

THEREFORE THERE WILL NOT BE A LUNCH MEETING THAT DAY.

The forum is a chance for we members to have input into the running of the club. We can ask questions, put forward suggestions, criticise or praise.

Anyone who has a specific issue they would like raised is asked to put it in writing to President Shirley by 10th August.

Partners are welcome and indeed encouraged to come.

LION KING

AUGUST IS MEMBERSHIP MONTH-

When we focus our attention on Membership Development.

This involves recruiting new members, providing information about ‘things Rotary’ to newer members, and keeping current members active and stimulated.

Membership Development chair is John Gregory who unfortunately is unwell at present, but members are urged to be aware of the benefit of having a strong membership body and of introducing new faces.

If newer members are unsure of the process, please consult one of the older members, or indeed your proposer.

COMMUNITY MATTERS

EAST TIMOR

Concert to raise funds

The district ‘Rebuilding East Timor Committee’ is raising funds to build a small primary school in East Timor. The school will be built by Rotary volunteers and to this end a concert has been organised for the 14th of September.

Entertainment will be provided by the Melbourne

AUSTRALIAN ARMY BAND.

This band is considered one of the finest bands of their kind in the world and consists of 34 full-time professional musicians who primarily operate as a concert band. The band is versatile enough to break down into smaller groups such as a jazz ensemble, woodwind quartet and fanfare team, is equally at home on the parade ground, and plays everything from Rock to Opera to Jazz, and Tchaikovsky to Lloyd Webber.
