6.5 / Conservation Architecture
Arnie Dunn has met with Charles Strang concerning Conservation Accreditation Scheme. They have agreed the following:
“The conservation committee will take on some new blood. Charles is hoping that one of the qualifications for this would be that the candidate would be accredited. One target is to have at least one person from each Chapter.
Andrew Leslie will sit on the committee and the committee will report directly to Practice Board. This will improve the communication between committee and board and therefore council (there has been very little for two years).
Arnie asked that the accreditation scheme application be limited to two sides of A4. The committee will look at this. Charles has been informed of the level of disquiet about the scheme both from Council and “respected conservation architects”.
The meeting was very good and positive.” Arnie Dunn
6.6 / RIAS Convention 2008
The working group meets on a regular basis and is currently considering the theme.
LDN Architects have suggested:
“Influence at the Intersection”
The intersection of architecture with other creative arts is fertile territory. Profound works emerge which cross boundaries and create fresh momentum to invigorate and propel the mainstream. The recent work and initiatives of Thomas Heatherwick, Wayne Hemingway and Alain de Botton show how the way we think about and practice architecture is directly influenced by non-architects whose own creative endeavours lead towards architecture. Converley, the sculptural work of Peter Eisenman and Tonkin Liu illustrates how architectural thinking can extend into the less programmatically constrained terrain of the expressive arts.
The RIAS Convention 2008 will explore the work of established and emerging architects, artists, designers and writers whose work crosses over to create “Influence at the Intersection”.”
7.0 / NEXT MEETING
7.1 / The date of the next meeting will be Tuesday 9th October 2007 at 5.45 for 6.00 pm RIAS Council Room, Rutland Square.
