The Constitution of the

Edge Hill Students’ Union Raising and Giving Society

1. Aims

1. 1.To involve students in charitable fundraising to raise money and offer assistance for local, national and international charities.

1.2. To show by example that charitable fundraising can be fun and exciting and to work as a team, supporting each other.

1.3. To educate and develop students towards charitable fundraising, volunteering and event management andto provide practical experience for its members.

1.4.To be the principal and official charitable fundraising body for Edge Hill Students’ Union.

1.5. To work constructively and supportively with other university RAGs.

1.6.To provide support and guidance to other EHSU groups wishing to organise fundraising events

  1. Membership

2.1. To become a member of RAG, individuals must sign up through the EHSU website, in line with the requirements of EHSU affiliated student groups.

2.2. There shall be no membership fees

  1. Structure

3.1.EHSU RAGwill have a core elected committee in line with the minimum requirements of EHSU affiliated student groups all of whom must be registered students at Edge Hill University. These shall be;

a. President –

Principle duties;

  • Attend all EHSU organised meetings and training.
  • Be responsible for Risk Assessments for events and trips.
  • Act as Chair to society meetings.
  • Be the primary contact for RAG.
  • Coordinate other elected positions of responsibility within RAG.
  • Maintaining good communication with EHSU.

b. Secretary –

Principle duties;

  • Responsible for the overall co-ordination of events.
  • Inform members of upcoming meetings & events
  • Circulate agendas of meetings, take minutes at meetings and distribute them to members.
  • Maintain up-to-date membership contacts.
  • Be responsible for the ordering and maintenance of all RAG equipment.

c. Treasurer –

Principle duties;

  • Responsible for collecting any monies and ensure they are paid into the RAG account held by EHSU.
  • Ask for a regular Income/Expenditure Updates from EHSU.
  • Maintain good order of the society finances and ensure that the EHSU financial regulations are adhered to.
  • Ensure expenses are claimed properly and ensure that charities receive the correct funds.
  • The Treasurer shall report the financial position of Rag to the committee when requested given 1 months’ notice.

3.2.In addition to the core committee, the RAG committee shallhave additional elected committee positions; including but not restricted to;

a. Publicity officer –

Principle duties;

  • Responsible for coordinating the RAG social media accounts and web page. Working with the committee to ensure that all information is factually correct and up to date.
  • Responsible for the creation and distribution of all promotional
  • materials for events/projects
  • To liaise with the EHSU regarding adequate promotional channels.

3.3.The RAG committee will act within the best interests of the Aims of RAG, as outlined in Section 1.0 of this Constitution.

3.4.RAG will liaise with the EHSU Vice President Activities and Activities Coordinator on a regular basis and other EHSU staff when necessary.

  1. Practices & Voting
  2. The quorum for RAG meetings shall be 51% of the total RAG membership as defined in section 2.1 of this constitutionand must include committee members.

4.2. Five working days must be given prior to any scheduled quorate meeting. Ifquoracy is not met the meeting must be adjourned until the same time the following week, where the number of members in attendance can be less than quorum for the meeting to proceed.

4.3.The 3 Charites of the year will be voted upon by students by the 4thRAG meeting of the academic year.

4.4. The list of charities that are not selected will be published on the RAG web page and disseminated amongst societies, forming the “Adopt a charity list”. Charities can be added to this list at any point throughout the academic year by the RAG committee.

4.5 Elections for committee positions shall be held annually in late MARCH orAPRIL or when a committee member steps down and a position becomes vacant.

4.6. The date of the new committee election will be decided by the outgoing committee and all members will be notified, with a minimum of one weeks’ notice.

4.7. Committee terms are for one academic year.

  1. Finances & Money handling procedures

5.1. RAG shall operate under EHSUs’ society financial procedures and when necessary, will present its accounts to the Students’ Union.

5.2.A rollover of 10% shall be kept in the RAG account at the end of the academic year for running costs and to aid future fundraising and to allow the society to grow and develop. Theamount held back shall be retained from fundraising done in aid of the main 3 RAG charities of the year.

5.3. All money raised outside of the 3 main charities will be donated in its entirety to the charity with which the event/project is in aid of.

  1. Revisions

6.1.This constitution may be amended by a two-thirds majority of those present and voting at a quorate RAG meeting.

6.2. A minimum of five working days’ notice must be given to the RAG president, if members wish to bring forward amendments to the constitution.
