We have joined the

Aberdeenshire Schools litter Challenge!

The idea of the litter challenge is,

‘to challenge pupils to come up with their own solutions to the problem………….

Scores will be given across a range of categories for effort, originality (new ideas or adapting a successful one from elsewhere) and effectiveness……………………. There will be rewards including a first prize of £500 for the school to spend on a project to improve their environment.’

All our pupils have been asked for their suggestions on the best and most effective things we can do about litter and we have had lots of good ideas that we will be trying to put in action during the next couple of months.

Many pupils suggested litter picking and so during our school activities week we are planning a

Our fair Trade tuck shop has celebrated its 1st birthday

Recycling opportunities at the academy

·  Jewellery, old and foreign coins and mobile phones – please hand in to the office

·  Clothing and shoes – salvation army recycling bin at far end of the car park - please put items in plastic bags and fasten shoes together in pairs

·  Batteries, toner cartridges - hand to Mr McLennan (technician)

·  Printer ink cartridges - hand to Miss Coleman (PE Dept.)

·  Books – to the librarian

We recycle glass, plastic bottles, cans, paper and card and also

compost uncooked food waste from the Home Economics department and garden waste from our courtyard garden.
