ECE 477 Digital Systems Senior Design Project Spring 2006

Homework 1: Team Building and Project Idea

Due: Friday, January 13, at NOON

Proposed Project Name: (to be decided upon once we choose a project)

Team Members (#1 is Team Leader):

Project Idea #1:

Flying Helicopter with auto-landing function. It can be controlled manually via a wireless handheld controller. It would have a camera attached to it that detects the landing port and positions itself for proper landing at the push of a button. It’ll have an arm that can hold something; the user can make the helicopter carry something somewhere. We were thinking of making a robot that can deliver things to places we cannot reach. Cost: helicopter + camera + microcontroller + misc parts. One person handles helicopter assembly and functionality, one person for the camera video feed, one person for the controller (programming), one person for sensors and other peripherals.

Project Idea #2:

Car that can be controlled via a local PC and has a function for driving around by itself and shoot people nearby using a directional heat sensor. The car would have a camera attached to it and it sends a wireless live video feed to a PC so the person who is viewing can see what the car can see. Its driving/shooting function can be either controlled manually or automatically. A fun toy for kids, great for annoying people. Inspired by the creative/destructive minds of our group members. One person deals with the wireless communication between the camera and the PC, one person for the car assembly, one person for the manual control IR controller, one for the PC interface and programming.

Project Idea #3:

Gameboy-like system that has the game Tetris loaded into its memory and has buttons similar to that of a gameboy. It would have a port for dealing with external memory cards for saving score data. We’ve programmed a java-based Tetris game in a previous class, now we want to try to get it to work in hardware. Mainly a programming type project so most of the time everyone will be working on code.
