Artist Bettina Lesieur Announces Annual Open Studio and Gallery Exhibition “The Romance of Land and Sea”

Signature event includes works by the late master artist Robert Lesieur and artisan potter Lisa Howard

DUXBURY, MA – Tuesday, June 6, 2017—Artist Bettina Lesieur will open her gallery in the South Shore village of Duxbury to exhibit her award-winning art. The public is invited to visit and view the extensive collection, which will be on display and for sale throughout the weekend, and includes this year’s signature piece – an oil on panel titled “After the Storm.” Paintings range in size from miniature to large and feature iconic scenes of beauty from the South Shore, Cape & Islands, as well as from Lesieur’s travels to France, Italy and Greece.

A summer tradition for more than 15 years, this year’s exhibition “The Romance of Land and Sea” opens with a Gala Reception on Friday, August 4 from 6 to 9 pm. The show continues Saturday and Sunday, August 5 and 6, from 11 am to 5 pm. Viewings are also available year-round by appointment.

This year’s works feature striking scenes that reveal the intrigue of land and sea, highlighting the aftermath of a storm or the serenity of a peaceful summer day. Lesieur noted, “The effect nature and all of its elements – from the seasons to the weather – can have on the same scene is remarkable. I never tire of bringing the changing beauty that surrounds me to life in my paintings.” Inspired by the long, gray days of this winter and spring, Lesieur spent the majority of her time lingering at her easel, painting sunny, warm vistas of places she has traveled while capturing exquisite images of the South Shore's beaches and marshes.

The open studio will include pieces from Lesieur’s late father, the prolific artist Robert W. Lesieur. His vast portfolio, including portraits, still lifes and landscapes, has attracted much attention and recognition in terms of prestigious awards, and his works are collected both in the private and corporate sectors. For the third year, theopen studio will also feature pottery from local artisan Lisa Howard, owner of Local Pottery in Norwell. Her colorful, one-of-a-kind-treasures combine beauty and function and will include pieces with a coastal theme.

A passionate artist and teacher, the annual open studio and gallery exhibition is a much-anticipated event for Lesieur each summer. “I enjoy the process of photographing scenes from my travels and the South Shore, sifting through them to decide which images to paint and developing a theme for the event. Sharing my work with the community, collectors, and current and former students is the highlight of my summer.”
