Genny mentioned the reception would be on Feb. 24th from 6 pm to 8 pm and that she also may be able to get Albertsons to cater it. Members are to bring finger foods as well.

Art Gallery--Genny

On Feb. 23rd, the Gallery will be having a re-Grand Opening from 11 am to 5 pm. Ribbon cutting is at 4 pm. It will be like a block party in that the local businesses will be having coupons, only obtainable at the gallery, to be used on just that day. Port of Subs – buy one get one free sm, med, or lg sandwich, Kubuki - $5 off all you can eat sushi or one free sake with dinner purchase, Encore – no tax on purchases > $299 and no interest or payments on 12 month financing.

Channel 10 will be filming, and there will be artist demos in the small rooms.

Frank Henley – the back unused office will be set up as a photo studio with printer. Frank will take portraits of customers and print them a free 4” x 6” copy (they can order and purchase more or larger prints from Frank at their discretion). Mary Ann Plavi – will set up her loom in the large office space with the large window and work on a project all day. Laria Lovec – will set up in one of the small offices (future sound proof rooms) with the little windows and work on a piece of art work using her cattle-markers.

A 50-50 auction will also take place Thursday during the grand opening and continue Friday during gallery hours. The auction will end and winners announced at the end of the art show reception at the museum Friday, Feb. 24th. Any ECAC artist can put a piece of artwork in the silent auction. Art work will be hung in the Featured Artist section of the gallery Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th with a silent auction sheet that the gallery will provide. Money bid on each item will be split 50-50 with the artist retaining half of the earnings and the other half donated to the ECAC. Please contact Genny at 934-9718 or if you would like to have a piece of your artwork part of the silent auction. Items would need to be dropped off at the gallery by Wednesday, Feb. 22nd.

Artist of the Month – March – Wendy Ehrmann

March Featured Artist – Laria Lovec, painter, fabric arts, photographer, and potter. Laria’s work will hang March 2 through March 30 and will have herreception March 3 from 4 to 6 PM.

The Art Gallery can be found on the Chamber's webpage, also Arts for Nevada and American Towns, when googled online.

It was decided that the ECAC would not renew its DBA Membership. The DBA stated that our current location is out of the DBA area so we would not be able to participate in most events unless we set up a tent downtown during their events (such as wine walks, side walk sales, snowflake festival, and farmers markets). We could join as an associate member (pay but not play), an option that does not fit in our mission statement or budget.

It was proposed at the gallery meeting that future ECAC points could be earned by gallery sitting. One point for each month (not day) that an ECAC member sits the gallery. Implementation is at the discretion of the point committee to present for a ECAC vote.

In an effort to give a more professional look to the gallery, it was decided that labels, business card size, be ordered from Vista Print to be mounted next to the wall art in the gallery. Price tags would still be required to be attached to artwork for sales purposes but would hang behind the artwork. This will give a more professional and uniformed look to the gallery.

In a further effort to get monetary support for the gallery, it was suggested that and ECAC art club member create with their own artwork postcards that they would donate to the gallery. Postcards would be sold at the gallery for $1 each with all proceeds going as a donation to the ECAC. Artist can put their contact information on the back of their postcard for advertising purposes. Cards through Brandy and Vista Print are approximately $25 for 100. Please contact Genny if you would like to donate postcards for the postcard program.

Home Depot representatives stated that they would not be able to donate a full $200 worth of product to the ECAC as they did last year but would be able to do assist with the gallery obtaining track lighting. Home Depot will donate two track lighting systems (value up to $50 each) with our purchase of 3 track lighting systems. The building managers at the gallery will install the lights at no cost to the ECAC.

It was suggested that cards advertising the Art Gallery with a map on the back be purchased from Vista Print and placed in area hotels. Brandy Miller has a premium membership with Vista Print which enables her to order for the ECAC at a substantial discount and free shipping. This would be cheaper than Genny printing them herself and there is a price break for orders of 1000. Mary Ann motioned that Genny proceed with this, Brandy seconded, all approved.

The gallery policy of hanging originals in the main gallery was discussed. The question was if canvas printed giclees of paintings, or other than photographic art, could be hung in the main gallery. Photographic giclees on paper are currently hanging in the main gallery and would continue to be allowed as this is the only way to produce this art. But it was decided that giclees of paintings would not be allowed to hang in the main gallery but could be hung in the print area. Discussion on having photography numbered and signed to hang in the main gallery was discussed but not acted on.

A giclée, (zhee-klay) for people unfamiliar with the term, is basically a French word coined to mean a high quality ink jet print using archival inks & supports (paper, canvas & photo base paper.)

Art in the Park-- Frank Henley
Susan Elliot signed up to be on the AIP committee. A steady stream of applications has been come in and $1,200 has been collected in the last few days.

Publicity--Genny

Elko Independent has done a big write up about the Spring Show at the museum. Elko Daily Free Press said they will be doing a story as well, including the new gallery location.

Rotating Art--Genny
A new business (name?) signed up for RA, but won't be having any art hung. Elko Glass is not participating this year. Red Lion is interested in having art hung in the buffet area, but there are issues with kids being present and also the art must be secured to the wall as with Super 8, which is a bit of a problem due to the procedure involved with that.

Scholarship -- Sheila

Genny said that Sheila has sent out all the information and this will be put in the newsletter.

Unfinished Business

Continuing the discussion on clarification and possible revision of some aspects of the by-laws, three areas; shows, membership and the point system were focused upon for appointing committees to consider and after the committees' findings, these suggestions would go up for a vote by the membership.

Regarding shows, it was brought up that there have been issues with assigning categories in judged shows because of the different types of works, particularly fiber art, that aren't always appropriate for competing against each other. Digital art is another category that needs clarification.

An idea presented for the show committee to consider was the possibility of the club sponsoring a juried show where no points are required and it would be open to everyone, including non-members and an entry fee would be charged. Wendy M. suggested having the show committee write up the options of juried vs. non-juried shows etc.

Brandy said she would be willing to serve on a committee that will help to maintain and encourage new membership.

Patti, Mary Ann and Wendy agreed to be on the point committee. Susan Elliot has been in contact with Patti and is participating on the point committee as well. Laria suggested all the committees have their suggestions/recommendations prepared by April then they could go up for a vote, and possibly be put in the by-laws by June.

Wendy made a motion to form the committees, Mary Ann seconded, all in favor.

Laria said she would be emailing out the current versions of the by-laws to all the members.

New Business

Brandy offered her services to the club as webpage designer. Genny motioned to accept, Mary Ann seconded, all approved.
