General description

Universal remote control that works on all major brands of TV, DVD, Stereo, digital set top boxes and Sky. This remote is easy to set up as it copies settings from your existing remote controls for the relevant piece of equipment.

Orientation

With the front of the remote control facing towards you there are seven function buttons. At the top, on the left, is a black button with a green outline, which is the On button. To the right of this is the Off button, which is the same shape and colour as the On button, but has a red outline.

Below the On button is a small light grey button, which is the AV.

To the right of this button is a small green indicator light. This illuminates whenever a button is pressed.

Underneath the AV button and indicator light are two black buttons. These are the channel up and downbuttons, and have the letters “CHN” on them with an arrow pointing left on the left button (down), and one pointing right on the right button (up).

Below these buttons is the volume up button. It has “VOL” and a plus symbol on it.

Underneath the volume up button is the volume down button. It has “VOL” with a minus symbol on it.

On the back of the remote, just below half way, is a small aperture. This is the opening to the battery compartment.

Getting started

Installing the batteries

This remote control uses three 1.5V AAA batteries. To insert the batteries, remove the battery cover on the back of the remote by placing your finger in the aperture and pull the cover away until it is completely removed. Position each of the batteries into the compartment with the negative (flat) end positioned against the spring.

Replace the cover by locating the two small lugs at the bottom of the cover and clip them into the two small holes at the bottom of the battery compartment, and then push the lid into place until you hear a click.

Replacement batteries are available from RNIB under product code CP05.

Please note: RNIB does not guarantee batteries.

Using the product

Setting the remote

Programming buttons

In order for this remote control to work together with your equipment, it must be “taught” what signals are sent from the remote control of the equipment.

  1. Keep both the On and Off buttons depressed for about three seconds. The indicator will show a steady light (if no button is depressed within 10 seconds, the learning mode will be cancelled).
  1. Press the desired button on the remote. The indicator light will flash once.
  1. From a distance of approximately 1.5 to 4 inches, point the equipment’s remote control at the easy-to-see remote and hold the corresponding button. If the easy-to-see remote was successful in learning the signal, the indicator will flash twice. If there is an error, the indicator will flash six times.

Repeat steps two and three for each button, or if the learning fails. Repeat steps one and three if a button needs to be altered.

Programming a button with a double signal

If this remote control only works intermittently, then it is likely that the original (equipment) remote utilises a double signal. To teach the easy-to-see remote this double signal, follow the below steps.

  1. Keep both the On and Off buttons depressed for about three seconds. The indicator light will show a steady light (if no button pressed within 10 seconds, the learning mode will be cancelled).
  1. Press the desired button on the remote. The indicator light will flash once.
  1. From a distance of approximately 1.5 to 4 inches, point the equipment’s remote control at the easy-to-see remote and press and hold the corresponding button. If the easy-to-see remote was successful in learning the signal, the indicator will flash twice. If there is an error, the indicator will flash six times.
  1. Press the same button on the easy-to-see remote once again. The indicator light will flash once.
  1. Keep the corresponding button depressed on the equipment’s remote control. If the easy-to-see remote was successful in learning the signal, the indicator light will flash twice. The remote has now learnt the double signal.

Repeat steps 2 to 5 for each button utilising a double signal, or if the learning fails. The easy-to-see remote is now ready for operation.

Hints and Tips

Should learning fail even after repeated attempts, try replacing the batteries in the equipment’s remote control.
