EASY READ TRAINING

ABOUT PEOPLE FIRST

People First (Self Advocacy) initially developed the idea of Easy Read in 1996, when we started to develop our first picture bank. In recent years People First has been concentrating on policy and campaigning, and supporting self-advocacy groups to become strong organisations.

ABOUT OUR EASY READ PICTURE BANK

Over time we have reviewed and developed our Easy Read picture bank, and we are now in the process of giving it a major update to make sure that it meets everybody’s needs.

EASY READ DOCUMENTS

Many organisations feel that they do not have the skill or time to make complicated documents accessible. People First have a good track record in providing this service for many organisations, and we will be happy to provide a quote for any Easy Read work that you require.

EASY READ TRAINING

One of People First’s priority campaign areas is that organisations should make sure that Easy Read documents are available for the people with learning difficulties who receive their services.

People First has developed Easy Read training to support service providers and professionals to gain the skills they need to make information accessible.

Our main trainer has been providing training for 8 years and because of the demand for Easy Read training, People First has developed a new Easy read training package.

We will provide:

  • A 5 hour training session; a mix of understanding how important Easy Read is for people with learning difficulties, knowing the theory and gaining practice; a very interactive session.
  • A CD Picture Bank – Access 2 Pictures - to take.

  • A Review of the team’s initial Easy Read document as posttraining support.
  • The opportunity to buy our new picture bank in 2013 at a 50% discount.
  • Lunch!

The content of the training will be:

  • What is accessible information?
  • Why is Easy Read important for people with learning difficulties?
  • Talking to people with learning difficulties about their experiences and understanding why jargon excludes people.
  • How to make your leaflets, reports and other documents using words and pictures.

The focus of the training is interactive, working in small groups with laptops and software, and learning from the experts.

Cost:£130 per person
