B. JOB PURPOSE
To assist professional staff in the provision of quality occupational therapy services thereby contributing towards optimal health care.

D. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Work under the guidance and supervision of the occupational therapist.
- Deliver self-care and rehabilitation equipment to the patient.
- Adjust equipment to suit patient’s needs.
- Construct and fit aids, including splints.
- Observe the use and suitability of the patient’s equipment and diversional therapy.
- Carry out routine maintenance of equipment such as cleaning and routine testing.
- Lift, transfer and assist in moving patients for treatment in accordance with safe practices.
- Observe and report problems to supervisor.
- Promote communication to and with patients, including the provision of basic primary health education.
- Collect, maintain and interpret the required records, statistics and information.
- Provide informal in-service training within area of expertise and guidance, to untrained assistants working in the department.
- Maintain good housekeeping (orderliness, hygiene and cleanliness) in the department.
- Report any unusual circumstances that have an impact on service delivery.
