TARGET AUDIENCE: Mental health professionals, including psychologists, clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, pastoral counselors, substance abuse counselors, nurses, pharmacists, EMS, and others interested in this subject.
OBJECTIVES: This is a knowledge-based activity whereby the learner will be able to:
1. Describe the symptoms of childhood depression and important risk factors for suicide
2. Explain how depression differs from grief or unhappiness
3. Describe the incidence of suicide in the young
4. Describe prevention efforts and their levels of effectiveness
5. Discuss appropriate treatment modalities
6. Discuss the impact of suicide and severe attempts on the family and caregivers
7. Access resources and make recommendations for families
8. Formulate an agency aftermath plan
