East Central High School Color Guard

Thank you for being interested in the East Central Color Guard Line. This is an exciting extracurricular activity to be a part of, not only in the high school setting, but in the college setting as well. Many colleges offer scholarships for color guard!

If you are interested there are a few things you need to know. Every color guard member must try out. This camp is going to be Monday, April 23rd through Wednesday, April 25th from 3:30-4:30pm. Tryouts will be Wednesday, April 25th. THIS CAMP IS MANDATORY FOR ALL GUARD MEMBERS. You will go over all fundamentals including marching, flag work, and dancing.

Band Fees

There are band fees that every guard member will have to pay. The guard fee is $50(non-refundable) and will be due at Registration on the first day of Guard/Percussion camp (Monday, July 16th at 9am). Your band FEE DOES NOT INCLUDE THE COST OF YOUR GUARD UNIFORM. The cost of your uniform will be in addition to the band fee. Your band fee helps pay for competition fees, food, transportation, and guard equipment (flags, props, etc.). Guard uniforms typically range from $150-$200, but you get to keep your uniform. Fundraisers will begin towards the end of the spring semester to help pay for all your fees!

Summer Practices

If you make guard, we will have two practices in July before Guard Camp and Full Band Camp. These practices will be held on Monday, July 2nd and Monday, July 9th from 9am-12pm.We will have a fabulous guard line that all the other schools will envy and it will be because our guard has put in the effort to succeed.

Guard Camp

When: July 16-20 from 9am-4pm

Guard camp is not as hot. This camp is specifically for ALL guard members. We will spend time outside learning our spots on the field, but we will also spend the hottest parts of the day inside learning our routine. All camps are mandatory in order to be on the color guard line.

Full Band Camp

When: July 23-27 from 8am-4pm

This camp will bring together guard, winds, and percussion to put the entire show together. All groups will start the day with physical training and fundamentals, which consists of a variety of exercises. We will spend the morning outside doing fundamentals and learning drill for the show. In the afternoon we will focus on learning the guard routine. We will all return to the practice field for the last two hours of practice to put all that we have learned together with the full band. BRING WATER!!!!! All camps are mandatory in order to be on the color guard line.

You will be enrolled in band during the fall semester of school. You will attend all home and away football games, as well as Saturday competitions. We usually go to about 3 or 4 competitions which will be provided at a later date. In the stands at football games you will have choreographed dances that go along with the music played by the band.

Teachers Aid

It the end of the marching season (November) you will be required to be a teachers aid for any teacher of your choosing for the remainder of the semester. There will be a form given to you at the beginning of the semester that you will have to have filled out by the teacher.
