Physical Science – Grade 8
Ms. Clapsadle’sRoom
Objectives:
- To further develop the student’s knowledge in Physical Science.
- To have students actively involved in scientific investigations.
- To have students practice the scientific method.
- To guide and encourage students to get involved in problem-solving activities.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Physics and Chemistry principles
- Understand the Laws of motion and how they relate to Physics
- Understand the properties of matter and how they relate to Chemistry
Types of Assignments:
Types of Assignments may include:
- tests and quizzes
- lab activities/investigations
- use of technology
- class work and homework
- projects (individual & group)
- keeping a science journal
- reading and writing explorations
- lab reports
- presentations
- research explorations
Notebook:
You will be required to keep an organized science 2-pocketfolder or 3-ring binder.
Objectives, class papers, notes, handouts, quizzes/tests, and vocabulary will be kept and organized.
Textbook:
Students will each receive their own copy of the science textbook around mid-September. These are write-in textbooks that will not need to be returned when we are finished with them. They will be the students to keep. Students need to be responsible to keep them as there will be a cost to replace a lost book.
Expectations:
Please follow all school wide classroom behavior expectations as outlined in STMS A.R.R.O.W.S. Refer to pages 2 & 3 in the student handbook.
Homework and Project Policy:
Homework is due the next class period and should be completed to the best of a student’s ability. A zero will be given if the homework is not attempted. When a project or lab report has been assigned with a due date, the grade will be lowered one letter grade for each day that it is late. Students who have been absent will receive one extra day for each day they were absent. If you miss a class because you were absent, please see me as soon as you return to receive your make-up work.
Supplies:
You will need to bring your notebook, pencil, and write-in textbook to class each day.
