Early Years Numeracy Toolkit

Here are some suggestions of materials that you might consider ordering.

You have $100 to spend towards that (if you indicate on your categorical grant application that you intend to spend – application deadline is Dec. 15).

After discussion with Sherry Perih, numeracy consultant, here are some suggestions. I have also included any ordering information that I could find.

  1. bucket balances (various types)
  1. learning carpet (this is $100 towards the $300 for a full carpet with cards)
  1. an excellent instructional resource called Thinking Mathematically.

(you will have an opportunity to get this for free after Christmas if you sign up for the book study group)

  1. various die (up to 9 dots, double die, operational die, up to 6 dots)
  1. lots of colored items (beads, toothpicks, red and white dots, stickers, glue sticks)
  1. various materials recommended by Dr. Newton: number lines,

number grids, play microphones, classroom math posters,accountable talk cards,

spinners, dominoes, cards

  1. Marilyn Burns – ideas for teaching math to EAL students at
  1. various storykit books from McNally Robinson (recommended by Dr. Nicki Newton at her Guided Math Workshop)

This company has a HUGE selection of dice. It is quite easy to navigate in the site and there are order forms to print. They also have a variety of other materials – particularly manipulatives. This is a Canadian company so the information is in Canadian prices if you get the right order form.
