License Renewal Credit Evaluation Measures
In order to receive License Renewal Credit for participation in the Early Literacy KITE Modules, two requirements must be met and are articulated further below.
- The learner must earn a minimum of the “Expert” badge in each of the courses which equates to 75% of all available points in the course. Learners are scored on the completion of videos as well as the questions that follow each video.

- The learner must complete the Early Literacy: Base Camp Mission. This mission is a video reflection about your experience with the content and application in your teaching. The reflection will be a minimum of 5 minutes and will cover a range of questions listed on page 2 of this document. Scoring criteria is as follows:
*The learner will need to achieve an average cutoff score of 3 in order to receive credit.
Mission- Record a minimum of a 5 minute reflection around the following questions. The reflection may be recorded directly within the online mission window, or it can be recorded outside of the mission and uploaded.

Emergent Literacy- Letter Recognition: Summarize strategies that support students in learning letter recognition.
Emergent Literacy: Phonological and Phonemic Awareness: Summarize strategies that support in learning phonological and phonemic awareness.
Building Reading + Language Vocabulary- Phonics and Decoding: Summarize strategies that support student understanding and learning from phonics instruction.
Building Reading + Language Vocabulary- Vocabulary: Summarize strategies that support student attainment of a more robust vocabulary.
Building Reading + Language Vocabulary- Sight Words: Summarize strategies that support student attainment a sight word vocabulary.
Comprehension of Connected Text- Fluency: Summarize strategies and instructional practices that support student understanding and learning through fluent reading.
Comprehension of Connected Text- Self- Monitoring: Summarize strategies and instructional practices that support student understanding and learning from text through self-monitoring.
Comprehension of Connected Text- Understanding and Learning from Nonfiction Text: Summarize strategies and instructional practices that support student understanding and learning from expository text.
Comprehension of Connected Text- Understanding and Relating to Narrative Text: Summarize strategies and instructional practices that support student understanding of narrative text.

KITE Mission Tips
When completing this mission while you are in the KITE System, you will have the ability to either upload an already completed video, or record your video reflection right on this screen.
Below is some guidance around completing your reflection within KITE. Remember, KITE works best using Firefox.
Once you are ready to begin your reflection, click on the “Start Recording” button. The timer will countdown before it begins to record.If you choose to do your video reflection via some other method, you can upload that video by clicking on the “click here” link within this window. /
You will be prompted with a message that asks for permission to access your camera and microphone. In order to complete the mission in the browser, you will need to choose “Share Selected Devices”. /
One more security feature will pop up from Adobe Flash Player. This is normal. You must click “allow” in order to record your reflection directly in the browser. /
Now your video reflection is being recorded. Once you finish, made a mistake, or need to stop click on “Stop Recording”. If you made a mistake, don’t worry! You can record and save a few different drafts before you pick one to submit. /
A standard processing screen will appear. Be patient your computer and browser are working hard! /
Once your reflection has processed, you can replay it, record a new one, or view a previous draft. Once you have selected the reflection you wish to submit, click “Submit this Draft”. /
That’s it! Once you have submitted your reflection it will be reviewed and scored based on the criteria articulated in this document. You will receive a notification when the review process is complete.
