Early College Application

The Deadline to apply to early college is February 3, 2017.

ELIGIBILITY AND TARGET POPULATION:

• First Generation College Students

• Demonstrates ability to make mature, independent, and productive choices and to succeed in high school honors classes and college classes.

• Desires to be intellectually challenged and committed to embrace education.

• Makes education a priority over social and recreational interests.

• Is likely to thrive in a small, personalized educational environment.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Good attendance by our students in both their college classes and their high school classes is vital to our program. Families who choose an Early College are asked to schedule vacations, doctor visits, and other appointments so that they do not conflict with high school or college classes.

CALENDAR

Because Early College students take college classes, our calendar is aligned with Mitchell Community College. There are days that the Early Colleges are not in session but the community college is in session. On those days, the student will still be held accountable to the instructor’s attendance policy, and families will need to provide transportation. Families considering Early College are encouraged to carefully note the differences in vacation and summer schedules.

BUS TRANSPORTATION

Since the Early Colleges serve the entire county, it is not feasible for us to provide door-to-door bus service. We provide transportation from shuttle locations in each area of the county. Families are required to provide transportation to the remote shuttle locations. In addition, there will occasionally be family transportation requirements for after-school high school requirements and/or college requirements.

************ APPLICATION PROCESS ************

Step 1: Distribute recommendation requests to the appropriate school personnel for online submission, via an internal Google doc form, to the Early Colleges by 3:00 pm, February 3, 2017. (If the student attends an external school, please print the math teacher, language arts teacher, and counselor recommendation forms, and data manager forms. Ask the school to mail the forms to the specific Early College by the deadline.)
