Allergy Testing Instruction Sheet

1. You may not take antihistamines for one week (7days) prior to testing, this includes prescriptions and over the counter medications. If you are taking Zyrtec or Xyzal, do not take this for two weeks (14 days) prior to testing. Please check with a pharmacist or provider to verify if the medications you take contain antihistamines. These medications directly affect the results of your allergy testing, or can make the testing inconclusive. (Please refer to the list on the back of this page for other medications that can also influence testing).
2. It is important that you feel well on the day of your testing. If you are experiencing flu symptoms, nausea, vomiting, fever, hives and/or breathing problems, the test will be rescheduled for another day. Please report any changes in your health status. You should eat before arriving.
3. A parent/legal guardian must accompany patients who are under the age of 18. Please do not bring minor children other than the patient to the testing. Adult patients should not bring children to their testing.
4. Please wear a short-sleeved shirt (like a t-shirt or tank top), which can easily be pulled up on your arm as testing will be on the upper part of your arms. Restrictive clothing can be uncomfortable or make testing difficult.
5. The test can take approximately 1.5 hours for environmental testing and 2.5-3 hours for food testing. Please allow enough time for us to complete the testing. You may bring a book or other distraction.
6. Please inform us immediately if you are taking medication for high blood pressure, heart conditions, migraines, or glaucoma. You may need special instructions.
7. Insurance referrals are YOUR responsibility and must be obtained prior to testing. The referral must specify or include “ALLERGY TESTING”.
8. Please call your insurance company to confirm coverage, use code (95028).
