The Prophetic Aspects of the Sabbath and Seven
As most Adventists understand, the Sabbath is an important function at the end of time. Today we are going to study how the essence of the Sabbath is prophetic in nature in the prophecy of Daniel 9.
Genesis 2:1-3 / 7 Days / Weekly SabbathLeviticus 25:1-7 / 7 Years / Sabbatical
Leviticus 25:8-17 / 7 years times 7 / The Jubilee
Daniel 9:1-2 / 70 years / Land takes Sabbatical
Daniel 9:24 / 70 (7s) / Jews given Blessing
Daniel 9:25 / 7 (7s) and 62 (7s) / Rebuild to Messiah
Daniel 9:27 / 1 (7) / Last seven of Messiah
Daniel 9:2 in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the Scriptures, according to the word of the LORD given to Jeremiah the prophet, that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy years.
2Chronicles 36:21 The land enjoyed its sabbath rests; all the time of its desolation it rested, until the seventy years were completed in fulfillment of the word of the LORD spoken by Jeremiah.
Daniel 9:24 “Seventy sevens have been decreed for your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an end of sin, to make atonement for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy place.
Daniel 9:25 “So you are to know and discern that from the issuing of a decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince there will be seven sevens and sixty-two sevens . . .
Daniel 9:27 “And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one seven, but in the middle of the seven he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate.”
Furthermore, "in the coming of Jesus Christ, who lived among us and who was called Immanuel—'God with us'—we find a re-Sabbatization . . . . The time Christ lived on earth represents a kind of long Sabbath day" (Kubo 1978:17) which was continued through the presence of the Spirit and realized fully in eternity.
