SUMMER 2013 TRAINING INFORMATION

Eagle River and Mat-Su Area

Are you a high school student who enjoys cross country skiing and racing? Alaska Nordic Racing, a cross country ski training and competition club, conducts a cross country skiing summer training program in the Chugiak-Eagle River area beginning the middle of May to the end of July. ANR skiers had a very successful 2012-2013 season, and we want to help you continue that success through the 2013-2014 ski season that includes Besh Cups, U.S. Nationals, Arctic Winter Games, Junior Nationals, and the Alaska Junior Championships.

A separate fall training session runs from the second week of August 6 to the end of October. ANR is also planning a separate summer middle school training program.

The sessions are tentatively planned to run Monday to Thursday afternoons, 3:30-5:30 pm, mostly at Chugiak High School. A detailed summer schedule will be sent out prior to the end of school. Session cost TBA. Scholarships are available-- please speak to an ANR coach for more details.

Summer dryland training will consist of trail running, ski-specific leg exercises, strength exercises, games, and an introduction to rollerskiing. Athletes must have a helmet and a bright reflective shirt, jacket, or vest for all rollerskiing activities. Athletes must wear appropriate outdoor training clothing and be prepared for changing weather.

In addition to the regular training sessions, ANR will conduct weekend camps throughout the year, details TBA.

All ANR participants must submit a 2013-2014 registration form and medical/liability release form at the athlete’s first training session. Additional information and forms can be found on the ANR website at: http://www.alaskanordicracing.org/
