PRSS – Peer Recovery Support Specialist

Job Summary: Responsible for all activities on the floor of the unit during their shift including oversight of various participants and children to appointments and appropriate activities. The PRSS serves as a catalyst to fully engage consumers with treatment services, brokers information and resources, and assists consumers with the recovery process through supportive interactions with clinical staff and a variety of community stakeholders

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Advocate for women and children, especially as related to issues of chemical dependency.
  2. Role model recovery and wellness by being the living example that recovery is possible for everyone.
  3. Assist with the development of a WRAP, recovery or wellness plan(s).
  4. Be a part of the treatment team by promoting autonomy, self-direction, and self-advocacy.
  5. Outreach and engage consumers by orienting them to services and assisting with the completion of screenings, surveys and other recover-oriented documentation.
  6. Maintain case records (progress/shift notes) as appropriate, insuring the completion of all forms and relevant reports.
  7. Handle crisis situations.
  8. Attend monthly all-staff meetings and other employee development activities, including in-service training.
  9. Participate in program planning and researching new approaches and activities to promote the personal growth of residents.
  10. Coordinate with staff the responsibility for the safety and security of the facility including emergency procedures, security and all other facility management.
  11. Coach on effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.
  12. Maintain enforcement of house rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  13. Provide primary support for the childcare providers, performing the same responsibilities, when necessary.
  14. Model positive parenting skills for residents and provide support for the mothers and children in reestablishing family relationships.
  15. Maintain a working knowledge of current trends and developments in the behavioral health field through ongoing participation in trainings and other educational opportunities.
  16. Instruct residents in daily living skills, as is necessary and appropriate.
  17. Transport clients, as needed.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned

  7. Must have sensitivity to cultural diversity.
  8. CPR and First Aid within 30 days of hire.

Education and Experience:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Two years experience in residential chemical dependency treatment preferred.
  3. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  4. Possess a valid Oklahoma driver’s license along with proof of valid auto insurance.
  5. Demonstrated participation and personal knowledge of recovery.
  6. Be willing to self-disclose about personal recovery and wellness journey.
  7. Be stabilized in recovery practice ongoing self-care.
  8. Be able to serve as an example for others of what wellness and recovery looks like.
  9. Agree to respect and observe the PRSS Code of Ethics.
  10. Complete the PRSS training and pass the examination with a score of 75% or better and maintain certification requirements.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
