NUTRITION AWARD

Each year, FSNA honors school foodservice nutrition professionals with the Nutrition Award. It recognizes those that increase enthusiasm, desire, development, and implementation of nutrition education activities that reach every region, district, and school in Florida.

Background

School foodservice nutrition professionals are dedicated to promoting healthy, sustainable food choices and have a vision of healthy people in healthy communities. FSNA provides forums for sharing innovative strategies for nutrition education, expressing a range of views on important issues, and disseminating research findings. Members of FSNA educate individuals, families, fellow professionals, and students; as well as influence policy makers about nutrition, food, and health.

Who May Apply

To be eligible for this award (each region could have one [1] winner), the employee(s) shall:

  1. Be an active member(s) of the local and state association.
  2. Conduct the nutrition education project during the current school term.
  3. Conduct a nutrition education project that is cooperatively developed and carried out by an individual school center foodservice department (must be a school-based idea).

The project:

  • should have a specific objective
  • should promote sound nutrition principles
  • should have a method of measuring the response of the target audience
  • should have a method of evaluating results of the project.
  1. Provide documentation of the activity such as photographs, newspaper clippings, and program agendas if appropriate.

Even if you have submitted an award in the past, do not start until you have read the General Information and Procedures, Award Application Process. This is important in making sure you are following the criteria required for the award process and they may have changed from the previous year.

Selection Procedure

The application must be postmarked on or before February 1 of each year and sent to the FSNA Scholarships and Awards Chair. Judging will be based on previously stated criteria. All documentation must be neatly bound in a 1” or smaller folder/binder, on one-sided 8 ½” x 11” paper with the completed entry form serving as the cover page for all documentation.

Recognition

Region winners (one (1) from each Region possible) shall receive recognition and a matted, framed certificate at the FSNA Annual State Conference. In some years, funds are donated from industry. When these funds are available, cash awards will be distributed to the winning school foodservice departments.
