WELCOME TO 2015-16 SCHOOL YEAR!

Introduction: The primary focal points at Grade 6 are divided into seven primary units: Numbers, Number Operations, Proportionality: Ratios and Rates, Expressions, Equations, and Relationships, Relationships in Geometry, Measurement and Data, and Personal Financial Literacy. You’ll learn more about problem solving, how to use the tools and language of mathematics, and how to THINK mathematically.

Textbook: TEXAS GO MATH! Grade 6, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2015.

Course Requirements:

Daily homework, quizzes, tests, and supplemental enrichment exercises will be assigned. Small group activities will enrich the discovery process of mathematics as well as small group and/or individual projects. One individual project might be assigned per cycle.

Absences: (See POMS Planner page 6)

Since classes meet three times per week, student presence is important. The student is responsible for making up missed work. Students should see me and schedule a time to make up missed work. I will not seek out any students and ask for make up work.

Homework: will be assigned daily!!!!!!!!!!

Mathematics is learned through thoughtful practice. Students will be encouraged to work together as much as practical, but homework and chapter reviews should reflect the students’ own work and understanding. Pure copying/cheating will result in a zero for the exercise and subject to further disciplinary actions (see Code of Conduct). Work must be shown for each problem to receive credit. Homework must be done neatly, presented in order, on quadrille ruled paper or standard-sized, white, 3-hole punched paper (wide-ruled paper), with no ragged edges. Use of pencil (NOT PEN) and eraser (not scribbles) encourages neatness and is also a requirement. Work not meeting these standards or done in reddish or glittery tones will NOT be accepted. ALL HOMEWORK IS DUE AT THE START OF CLASS.

Materials: It is important to be organized! Everyday you MUST bring to class:

  • Student’s Math textbook.
  • Composition tablet Quadrille Ruled
  • Two pencils (NOT PENS), eraser and small pencil sharpener,
  • The student should have available during the year: pencils, ruler, graph paper, and color pencils.

Evaluation Procedures: All quizzes and tests are timed. Make-ups will be scheduled by the teacher to be taken during non-instructional time. Students who fail to show up the date of the make-up will keep the original grade.

A school-wide Progress Report will be sent home EVERY three weeks. A Report Card will be sent home every six weeks. GradeSpeed is available through PS Connectat any time! Every student must have their own account!

Grading (Weight)

Test 40%
Quiz/Project 30% / Class Work 20%
Homework10% / 

Retake: Students who make less than 80% on a test will be given the opportunity to make up that assignment. The two grades will be averaged, but it will capped at 80%.

NOTE: Plagiarism is a form of cheating. When a person copies another person’s work or ideas without giving credit to that person, he or she is stealing and is therefore, cheating. This applies to copying and pasting information from Internet sites as well. If a student plagiarizes, he or she will receive a zero on that assignment and parents will be contacted.
