##CONTENT BEGIN## : About DevonWood

DevonWood Equestrian Centre is an internationally recognized, privately owned, dressage boarding, training and show facility. Located in Sherwood, Oregon, DevonWood is home to Dressage at DevonWood, the largest dressage competition in the Northwest. Over 200 horses and riders from all over the western United States and Canada will compete this year on July 21-23, 2006.

Among the breeds currently boarding at DevonWood are Thoroughbreds, Arabians, Quarter Horses, and Warmbloods. All are actively training in dressage. The most successful dressage breed is the warmblood or sport horse. Warmbloods are bred to have both the mind and body that makes them ideal for dressage, show jumping, and eventing. Warmbloods frequently come from Europe where the various governments strictly control breeding and top stallions and mares are selected by lengthy testing periods. An ideal dressage horse has three good gaits (walk, trot, and canter), a willingness to learn, and the necessary strength and endurance to perform the more difficult movements including the passage and the piaffe.

DevonWood is primarily a dressage training stable. Our head trainer is USDF silver medalist Teri Emrich. Her knowledge of the sport and deep concern for horse and rider safety is reflected in nearly every aspect of DevonWood's overall design and day-to-day operation. Megan Gardner is the assistant trainer and a gifted rider. Part-time trainer Gina Jensen rounds up our training staff. Our trainers are knowledgeable, compassionate and competitive FEI riders.

The instruction at DevonWood allows riders of all levels to participate in the sport and choose the style of teaching that they like best. Our staff is more than willing to help you move up the levels or simply work on the areas that you feel need improvement. Whether you are a serious, competitive show rider, or just love your horse and want to improve your ability to communicate with him, we have the instructors to help you reach your goal.

Ginny and Justin Rattner developed DevonWood Equestrian Centre to provide Oregon and southwest Washington with a world-class facility for dressage training and competition. It is a family operation that is a passion for their daughter Jessica, and sons Evin and Noah as well. Our training staff is supported by Jason Cheney, our terrific facility manager responsible for the property and buildings, and Ellen Gardner, our invaluable director of DevonWood's feeding and turnout program which keeps our boarded horses in top physical condition. Our staff is rounded out with a great group of Alfredo Gonzales, Federico Lazaro, and Ramiro Gonzales. They care for our horses meticulously and kindly.
