Dutchtown High School Air Force JROTC Department

Dear Parents: 22 September 2014

Your child has expressed an interest in taking part in our 28 October2014 field trip to the Warner Robins Air Museum (Warner Robins, GA)to augment our academic portion of aviation history – the development of flight. The tour will start with a guided tour of the Warner Robins Air Museum’s earliest aircraft, the military’s first aircraft, and culminate with the most current aircraft and how they all evolved into impacting the Air Force’s current flying mission. We will have lunch at a local restaurant and are tentatively scheduled to visit the Robins AFB Base Exchange. While this field trip enhances the “aviation history” curriculum that your child will learn this semester, it is not a requirement for the class. The trip is an optional curriculum-in-action experience.

The cost of the trip is only $15 (cash or money order only). This price helps cover the transportation (charter bus) and guided tour of Warner Robins Air Museum. Students should bring at least $10 for lunch. (Students will need to eat breakfast before leaving home).

The field trip permission form will be distributed on 15 October and will be due back to Major Beavers by 4pm on 22 October. I will not accept the form without the money or the money without the form – and the form must be completely filled out and signed, by 4pm on Wednesday, 22 October– no exceptions. We can take only 40 students. We have a first come, first served(eligible) system, based on the order in which the completed forms and money are returned. Again, the formsand money must be returned at the same time. And, we cannot “reserve” spots for incomplete items. The money, once paid, is not refundable after 24 October unless I have a student on the JROTC waiting list with which I can replace your child. Also, please note, students must return all required forms.

To be eligible for the trip, your child must:

  1. Be passing JROTC
  2. Pass each uniform inspection from 14 October – 28 October.
  3. Be consistently making a positive effort to do their JROTC work
  4. Have exceptional behavior and self-discipline (in JROTC, during JROTC activities, and in the school)
  5. Have no ISS/OSS 1 October – 28 October.
  6. Cannot have any un-served JROTC detention
  7. Consistently meet school grooming requirements (no saggy pants or un-tucked shirt problems)
  8. Must meet all field trip deadlines
  9. Must make at least an 80 on any “aviation history or corps management” assignments/presentations now through 28 Ocotober.

Students are responsible for all missed school work. Students must report to JROTC at 6:45am on 28 October dressed in their JROTC uniform, open collar and windbreaker, and must meet all grooming requirements. Students must have the JROTC uniform cap with them as well. We will depart DHS promptly at 7am on Wednesday, 28 October and will return at approximately 4pm. Your child will miss one full day of school.
