Wednesday Word – LENT

THIS WEEK – During our Come and See sessions we have continued to learn about what happens during a Mass and have completed our formal assessment on Gathering. During Literacy, we have been listening to and working with the story of Handa’s Surprise, writing sentences and creating story maps. During Maths, we have started our topic on addition and have been learning a variety of language related to addition like add, plus, together, total. In the afternoon sessions, we will be trying different fruits and talking about the taste and texture of these fruits. We will have looked at photographs of shops around Ashton that sell food and have talked about the types of food that are sold here.

During our phonics sessions our focusses have been -

Mrs Gills group – igh and the words are, you and all.

Miss Gorman’s group – qu and the word be and revisited he and me

Mrs Ryan – ar and have continued to go over the words he, we, me, be, she, see, you, my, her, was, they, all, are.

Mrs Ridings groups – ar and igh and have continued to go over the words he, we, me, be, she, see, you, my, her, was, they, all, are.

NEXT WEEK – During our Come and See sessions we will be remembering all that we have learned during our Gathering topic and have worked together as a class to complete our end of topic celebration. In Literacy, we will be focusing on Fairtrade and finding out about what it means. The children will be creating posters and writing information about Fairtrade to inform others why it is important to by Fairtrade. During Maths, we will be continuing with our topic on addition and completing different activities related to this. During the afternoon sessions, we will be continuing to look at Fairtrade and will be watching videos of Fairtrade in action. We will also be creating a song about Fairtrade and will be performing these with each other.

WEEKLY CHALLENGE – It has been lovely listening to all the exciting things that the children been doing during the half term holiday. This week we are asking parents to send in any empty packages or boxes that have the fair trade symbol on them to create a collage of these next week when we will be thinking about What Fair trade is. Please point out the symbol on any packages when you are out and about in the supermarkets.

WORLD BOOK DAY – Thank you for all your support in creating the wonderful costumes of the children’s favourite story book characters. The children enjoyed joining in with our World Book day activities. Remember to look on the school website and twitter for photographs of the day.

LIBRARY VISIT – Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to help us on our visit to the Library. The children enjoyed their session, listening to the stories and completing creative activities.

FINAL INSPIRE SESSION FOR THE SPRING TERM – Please remember that we will be holding another session during this term. We hope that you or a representative can attend this session.

Understanding the World Inspire – Thursday 23rd March – Class 1G 9am – 11.20am

Class 1K – 1.10pm -3.30pm

CAKE SALE – My apologies for giving at the wrong date before half term. Please remember it is our turn to sell cakes next week. Please send in any cakes made or shop bought into school on Monday morning. We will be selling the cakes for 10p each. We will continue to sell them until all the cakes are gone. All money raised is for the Cafod fund.

OUTDOOR AREA – As the children are coming in in the morning and after school, we are asking if you could ask the children not to access any of the equipment that is in the outdoor area. Equipment is set up for the day and on some occasions; this has been disturbed or moved. Please remind your children that they are not to play football before 9 o’clock due to small children bringing their siblings to school. We will speak to the children about the expectations in the morning and would like your support with this. Thank you.
