There was first, a brief review of the 3 organizations partnering on this project…Durham Region Fed. Of Ag., Durham Farm Fresh and Durham Farm Connections.

Durham Farm Connections is already partnered with Durham Region Sheep Producers,

District Corn Producers, District Wheat Producers, Durham Egg Producers, Durham Dairy Producers, District and Branch Women’s Institutes, Region of Durham and many other Ag. Resources.

The premise is that the trailer presently being used is old, worn and has already been rewired once.

Summary of Proposal:

In 2014 Farm Association Board members and farm education members met and decided that Agricultural Education is very important. They decided to put a proposal through on the Greenbelt’s Local Food Literacy Stream.

The Greenbelt supported it saying that there is not another mobile education unit in the GTA and they like to see partnerships between organiziations. The purpose of the trailer being that it will be a new resource built on a proven need working with new partnerships to keep the message current.

The trailer will be used at fairs, urban venues, schools, farmers’ markets and a host of other events. Ideally if the trailer is used in Durham Region, it should be free and if it is used outside the Region, there should be a fee attached.

The Greenbelt gave the organization up to $31,500 (matching funds arrangement) to develop the new trailer.
