Dulwich Cricket Club Juniors Head Coach – general information, role profile and key competencies

Overview of the role

To oversee the delivery of a high quality coaching service to the Dulwich Cricket Club juniors section including working with age group managers, coaches, parents and the wider Club as a whole. To ensure that plans are put in place prior to the season to ensure the required coaching resources are in place; to offer leadership to, and organise, the coaches on an on-going basis through the season; oversee the quality of coaching provision; to undertake administrative activities as required; and to ensure that all matters relating to Club Mark accreditation, health, safety and welfare are met. To help the Club develop a high quality and sustainable coaching arrangement and junior section structure for the future.

Remuneration

Dulwich Cricket Club would offer this role based on a fixed sum to be negotiated, rather than an hourly rate. Payment is to reflect the additional duties and responsibilities outlined above and detailed below in the role profile, and is in addition to any payment for coaching which will be paid on an hourly rate basis, as agreed. Subject to negotiation, it is expected that the honorarium for this role will be in the region of £2,000 which would be paid over the four months of April to July on a monthly basis.

Other supporting information

Although the ideal requirement would be for the Head Coach to be present, or participate in, all Dulwich Cricket Club junior coaching sessions it is appreciated that this is unlikely to be practicable. It would be expected that arrangements are agreed and put in place such that the Head Coach role does not disadvantage any particular age group.

Application process

Applicants are asked to provide a written, typed statement of no longer than 3 sides of A4 detailing their suitability to the role. Applicants should outline how their skills and experience meet the role requirements and key competencies as set out below, using examples where relevant.

The deadline for receipt of written statements is Friday, 19th September 2014. Interviews will be arranged with candidates following this with a view to an appointment being made in early October. The interview panel will comprise three representatives of the age group managers and Dulwich Cricket Club officials.

Main duties and key accountabilities of the role

·  Work with age group managers and other Dulwich Cricket Club officials to plan a deliverable, high quality juniors coaching programme for the 2012 season that aligns with the broader Club objectives, meets Club Mark requirements and meets the expectations of juniors and their parents/guardians;

·  To lead the process of recruiting a high quality coaching team ensuring that all lead coaches have the necessary qualifications and certifications;

·  To help develop coaches for the future, in particular acting as a mentor for newly qualified coaches and others interested in becoming coaches (including parents, age group managers, Young Leaders, etc);

·  To work with lead coaches and age group managers to develop coaching plans for each age group prior to the start of the season and, where necessary, to review and amend these plans;

·  To ensure that the coaching programmes across all age groups are appropriate, relevant, challenging and enjoyable for children of all abilities;

·  To oversee the quality of coaching provided and provide feedback and guidance where necessary;

·  To work with Club officials and age group managers to ensure that the health, safety and welfare of children, colleagues and others is fundamental to all activities, coaching plans and coaching organisation;

·  To assist in the production of a Selection Policy for the juniors section working with age group managers and other Club officials;

·  Where applicable and relevant to advise juniors and their parents/guardians on the development of their cricket careers and, where relevant, assist their progression to representative levels

·  To ensure that regular and productive communication is in place between age group managers and lead coaches;

·  To act as a key contact for parents and to act as an ambassador and role model for the Club at all times, including adherence to the Club’s Code of Conduct by yourself and as an advocate of this for parents, officials and coaches;

·  To attend and take an active part in Dulwich Cricket Club Junior Committee meetings as required;

·  To undertake any administrative activities as required by the role;

·  To undertake such other duties as may be reasonably expected;

Role requirements and key competencies

Qualifications and experience

·  A minimum ECB Level 2 (or equivalent) qualified coach which can be evidenced

·  Experience of being a Head Coach or of undertaking a significant role in a large, organised and forward thinking juniors cricket section
