INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS

Selection Criteria

  1. results in Year 12 as projected by the Principal of each nominating School, as follows:

  • overall: at least HA in 5 subjects
  • for Bachelor of Engineering (Honours): at least HA in Maths B and at least HA in Physics or Chemistry
  • for Bachelor of Information Technology: at least HA in Maths B

  1. recommendation by the Principal as to quality of the student’s performance, character and suitability for university study
  2. evident strong interest in engineering and/or and information technology studies through demonstrated participation in school, extracurricular and community activities related to the nominated degree program.
  3. excellent communication, interpersonal skills and demonstrated potential for leadership.

Application to QTAC Essential

In addition to nomination for this direct entry scheme, students will need to apply through QTAC as normal and to nominate the relevant UQ degree (Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (BEHons), Bachelor of Information Technology (BInfTech) as a preference. It may be possible to transfer to a dual degree Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) / Bachelor of Information Technology at a later date.

Students will need to nominate one of the above programs as their first preference on their QTAC form.

Interviews

Nominees may be required to present for interview by UQ and Education Queensland representatives.Telephone interviews may be arranged for non-metropolitan nominees.

Results

Up to 25direct entry places will be offered for 2016.UQ will notify successful applicants of the University’s commitment to offerthem a place in the relevant program/s. The University will also notify unsuccessful applicants.UQ Admissions will ensure that successful students are matched with their QTAC application and provided with a formal offer of a place at UQ.

INFORMATION FOR SCHOOLS

Procedures

  1. Nominations for Direct Entry are being advertised to the Gateway schools during Terms 2 & 3.
  2. Individual schools will select students according to selection criteria 1 and 2 above.
  3. Schools should submit nominations to the Education Queensland’s Head of Department Aerospace Industries (HODAI). Maximum of three applications per school.
  4. International students are not eligible for this direct entry scheme as it is only available to those students categorized as a domestic student .

Deadlines

Principals of Gateway Schools should submit nominations tothe Project Manager Aerospace Gateway Schools by4September 2015. Outcomes will be communicated to applicants and principalsearly in Term 4.
