The Canvasback winemaker, Brian Rudin, will be hosting this tasting. One of the emerging stars of Washington wine making, and in 2013, BrianRudin was selected as the founding winemaker for Duckhorn Wine Company’s Canvasback. In partnership with legendary vineyard manager Dick Boushey, Brian also guides the farming of Canvasback’s 20-acre LongwindsEstate Vineyard on Red Mountain.Today, in both the vineyard and winery, Brian embraces the challenge of making a richly compelling wine that shows the complexity and structure of great Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. “Red Mountain is one of the best places on earth to grow Cabernet,” says Brian. “The desert environment, with its long days, cold nights and mineral-rich soils, produces epic Cabernet Sauvignons. For a Washington winemaker who loves viticulture, this is a dream job,” Brian says “My role is to make a great terroir-driven wine from one of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon winegrowing regions on earth.

Tonight we will feature an array of wines from Duckhorn. Every time we show wines from Duckhorn I am surprised to see how many new fans these wines acquire. They have gorgeous forward fruit and an early appeal that rank very high on the immediate gratification scale. Chef Oliver Saucy will be sending out a few small course to accompany the tasting wines. This is a pre-poured sit down tasting and it limities to 35 tasters, the fee for this tasting is $35.00 plus tax and gratuity.

2016 Duckhorn Vineyards Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc

At Duckhorn Vineyards, we have been making our Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc since 1982. Harvested from our estates and select Napa Valley vineyards, this rich and elegant Sauvignon Blanc was blended with Sémillon to add depth and complexity. Fermented and aged using both stainless steel and French oak, it offers ripe citrus and tropical flavors, refreshing acidity and Sémillon-driven silkiness.

2014 Duckhorn Vineyards Napa Valley Merlot

Our Napa Valley Merlot is a complex blend of several individual vineyard lots, incorporating fruit from our estate vineyards and from top independent growers throughout the Napa Valley. The final wine is a rich and cohesive expression of the entire Napa Valley, reflecting the varied microclimates and soils of this unique appellation.

Combining lovely structure and alluring appeal, this is a classic expression of Duckhorn Vineyards Merlot. Intense aromas of ripe cherry, plum and black fig rise from the glass, underscored by hints of leather and cedar. On the palate, it is lush and supple, with bright acidity and velvety tannins supporting layers of raspberry and black cherry, as well as hints of coffee and chocolate that carry through on the long finish.


2014 Canvasback Red Mountain Washington State Cabernet Sauvignon

Home to some of Washington State’s most celebrated vineyards, Red Mountain is renowned for Cabernet Sauvignon. With ideal southwest-facing slopes and significant day and nighttime temperature swings, this small but highly prized area in Eastern Washington produces exceptional wines. Named for the Canvasback duck, which is native to the Pacific Flyway, this wine was crafted from grapes cultivated by some of Red Mountain’s finest growers. With Canvasback, our aim is to express and develop the depth, structure and sophistication that define wines from this young and exciting appellation.

As it evolves in the glass, layers of anise and sarsaparilla are revealed, alongside hints of caramel and espresso from barrel aging. On the palate, the entry is supple, weighty and rounded, with deliciously ripe tannins and juicy acidity coming together to create a classically structured Cabernet. Underscoring its lush character and fruit intensity is a lovely freshness that carries the wine to a bright, lingering finish.
