Dublin to Galway Greenway Plan

The Dublin to Galway Greenway Plan has been adopted by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.

The Plan has undergone Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) in accordance with the requirements of the European Communities (Environmental Assessment of Certain Plans and Programmes) Regulations 2004 (Statutory Instrument Number (SI No. 435 of 2004) as amended by the European Communities (Environmental Assessment of Certain Plans and Programmes) (Amendment) Regulations 2011 (SI No. 200 of 2011). The Plan has also undergone Stage 2 Appropriate Assessment (AA) in accordance with the requirements of the European Communities (Birds and Natural Habitats) Regulations 2011 (Statutory Instrument Number 477 of 2011) as amended by the European Communities (Bird and Natural Habitats) (Amendment) Regulations 2013 (Statutory Instrument Number 499 of 2013) and the European Communities (Birds and Natural Habitats) (Amendment) Regulations 2015 (Statutory Instrument Number 355 of 2015).

Accordingly a copy of the Plan and the associated SEA and AA documents are available for inspection on the Department’s website and

during normal office hours 9:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday from Tuesday2nd May, 2017 to Friday 19th May, 2017.

The SEA and AA documents that are available include a Statement (referred to as an SEA Statement) which summarises:

(a) how environmental considerations have been integrated into the Plan;

(b) how the environmental report [prepared pursuant to Article 12 of the European Communities (Environmental Assessment of Certain Plans and Programmes) Regulations 2004, as amended] and relevant submissions and observations made to the Department during the Plan preparation/SEA process [in response to a notice under Article 13 of the European Communities (Environmental Assessment of Certain Plans and Programmes) Regulations 2004, as amended] have been taken into account during the preparation of the Plan;

(c) the reasons for choosing the Plan, as adopted, in the light of the other reasonable alternatives dealt with; and

(d) the measures decided upon to monitor the significant environmental effects of implementation of the Plan [in accordance with Article 17 of the European Communities (Environmental Assessment of Certain Plans and Programmes) Regulations 2004, as amended].
