JOB TITLE:Project Geologist – Field Geologist (Full Time)

MAIN PURPOSE

Supervision and participation in drilling operations

  • Direct and supervise drilling, geophysical and geologic contractors during drilling operations
  • Review and approve daily drill reports
  • Manage drill site preparation and access to insure compliance with all regulations
  • Compile and submit all applicable regulatory reporting/recording requirements related to drilling and exploration activities
  • Geological logging of drill core and marking core for sampling
  • Daily communications with core technicians to ensure core processing procedures are followed
  • Daily communications with supervising geologists related to progress and results of drilling activities
  • Contribute to geological interpretations and constructing geological models, cross-sections, and plans to aid in geologic understanding both during and after drilling operations

Field Work

  • Conduct bedrock mapping/sampling programs
  • Review/compile historic geological information to aid in the understanding of local geology and exploration potential including:
  • Re-logging historic drill core
  • Review of available geologic, geochemical, and geophysical data
  • General activities related to preparing and conducting ground geophysical surveys

General Responsibilities

  • Follow all safety rules, guidelines, and policies
  • Participate in pre-task planning activities
  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards for all activities
  • Compile, tabulate, and prepare data for written reports
  • Assist with interpretation and summary of data and information for written reports

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

The successful candidate will have a minimum of three to five years of geological experience working in Precambrian terranes managing diamond drilling programs and will participate in all geologic activities as directed by the Director of Exploration. Familiarity with the geology of the Back Forty Deposit and surrounding area is a plus. The successful candidate will also conduct other field work primarily on the Back Forty project but may include exploration activities on a regional basis.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology
  • Three years of experience working in the exploration field with direct experience related to conducting exploration drilling programs and logging core
  • Ability to travel and perform field work
  • Exceptional written and communication skills
  • Flexibility with respect to schedule and ability to do shift work and be on call at night
  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications
  • Experience with geological/geochemical modeling and statistical software is beneficial
  • Experience with GIS software is beneficial
  • Valid Driver’s license
