Drug traffickers apprehended, their vehicle seized

Two individuals were charged with trafficking cocaine and distributing marijuana and their vehicle seized when they found themselves in the middle of some drug interdiction training.

Sheriff Clinton has been working on training for his officers in the area of drug interdiction and drug investigations. On Sunday Sheriff Clinton, Detective Mike Davis and Lieutenant Mark Henderson, using a K-9 team borrowed from Union County Sheriff’s Office, along with several deputies were working drug interdiction on the roadways.

Lieutenant Mark Henderson stopped a vehicle with no tag on Hwy 76 near the school. The driver of the vehicle had no license. The K-9 team called to the scene alerted on the vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of over two and a half ounces of cocaine and a pound of marijuana.

Sheriff Clinton commented on the bust, “I welcomed them to Towns County and told them that next time they visited, to have a tag on their car and leave their dope at home. I promised during the campaign that I would do all that I could to give the people of Towns County an honest war on drugs. We are just getting warmed up and I can promise you if you intend to traffic cocaine or other illegal drugs, Towns County is not the place you want to do it.”

The driver of the vehicle using the name Carlos Mojica Hernandez was charged with Driving While Unlicensed, felony possession of Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana with intent to distribute, trafficking cocaine, possession of cocaine and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

The passenger using the name Adin Mende-Garcia was charged with felony possession of Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana with intent to distribute, trafficking cocaine, possession of cocaine and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute

The vehicle used by the two to traffic the drugs, a Ford F-150, was seized and taken to the Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle was paid for so paperwork will be filed to seize the vehicle.

The Sheriff’s Office will run the fingerprints of the two arrested through AFIS for identification and notify INS.
