INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Thanks for purchasing the Smoothspyder Rotary Drive Belt Tensioner with Belt Guard, the ultimate in Dynamic Belt Control and Protection.

Please read all instructions before starting the installation.

The tensioner and bracket assembly can be installed without removing any body panels, drilling or cutting, however, removing the lower belt guard will facilitate the ease of installation.

1.Remove the tensioner from the bracket. Remove the 15MM flanged locknut from the left rear lower shock mount.

2. Twist the belt slightly to the outside, install the tensioner bracket from the bottom up and behind the belt, guiding the top left of the bracket inwards over the swing arm and over the bolt. Make sure the bracket is seated flush up against the shock mount.

3. Apply a small amount of Locktite(included) onto theshock bolt near the bracket. Using the new 15MM locknut, (included), tighten to 30 Ft. Pounds of torque.

4. Install the tensioner on the bracket. Slightly tighten the rear bolt enough to hold the tensioner in place flush against the bracket and raise the pulley up to the bottom of the belt, the belt should be in the center of the pulley.

Setting the tension. The tensioner is marked with corresponding lines to adjust the tension. 10-12 Lbs. is a good starting point, the normal range is 8-14 Lbs., depending on the static tension setting and the amount of vibration present. Adjust the tension using a 15/16’ socket or adjustable wrench. Turn the large 15/16” bolt located in the center of the unit clockwise to load the tensioner to the corresponding lines, securely tighten the rear bolt.

Two 6mm fold over nut clips are included to replace the nutsused on the backside of the lower belt guard. Snap the clips over the metal tabs and install lower belt guard.

The 2013 static tension setting has been raised to 1050 Newtons +/- 150 (900-1200N). Most 2013’s appear to be set at the low end of the belt tension specifications. The tensioner will add a small amount of tension to the overall static setting. The static tension with the tensioner installed should not exceed the 1200N maximum set by BRP. Any residual vibration not removed completely may also be moved up or down the MPH or RPM range by varying the tension on the tensioner. Experimenting with slightly more or less tension will help to find the spot with the least harmonics and vibration.

If you are unsure of your mechanical abilities, please have the installation performed by a certified motorcycle mechanic. End user assumes all liability in the use of this product.
