DRIFFIELD AND DISTRICT CHRYSANTHEMUM SOCIETY

RULES OF THE SOCIETY

1.  NAME. That the society be called "the Driffield and District Chrysanthemum Society".

2.  OBJECT. The special object of the society shall be to encourage and promote the cultivation of the Chrysanthemum and the promotion of Horticulture generally in Driffield and the surrounding District.

3.  CONSTITUTION. The society shall consist of a President, Vice Presidents, a Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Hon. Treasurer, Hon. Secretary, Hon. Show Secretary and Members.

4.  MEMBERSHIP. Membership of the society shall be open to:- any person who subscribes to and supports the object of the Society (Rule 2) and on payment of such Annual Subscription as may be decided at the Annual General Meeting of the Society or at a General Meeting called as hereinafter provided.

5.  ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. The Annual General Meeting of the Society shall be held during the month of March in each year.

6.  EXECUTIVE. The business of the Society shall be conducted by a Committee, to be known as the Executive Committee, consisting of the Chairman, the Vice Chairman, the Hon. Secretary, the Hon. Treasurer, the Hon. Show Secretary and not more than fifteen members, all of whom shall be elected at the A.G.M. of the Society. Five to form a quorum. Each member of the Executive Committee shall have one vote, but the Chairman, if an issue is equally divided, shall have a casting vote.

7.  VACANCIES ON THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE. In the event of any of the Officers or Members of the Executive Committee resigning or ceasing to be members of the Executive Committee, that the committee shall have the power to fill up the vacancy or vacancies.

8.  ALTERATIONS OF THE RULES. None of the foregoing Rules shall be altered, amended or rescinded except at the A.G.M.. of the Society or at a General Meeting called for that purpose, and that 14 day's notice be given to the Hon. Secretary of any motion to alter any rule or rules, so that any such motion may be specified on the notice convening the A.G.M. or General Meeting.

RULES FOR EXHIBITORS

All entries will be received, at the discretion of the Secretary, up to 9am on the day of the show.

However, if you are entering a large number of exhibits in cup classes it would help the management and

smooth running of the Show if you ring large entries in prior to the Show.

CUP CLASSES

To assist in the smooth running of the show those wishing to enter cup classes should notify the Secretary prior to the date of the show. Entries to the cup classes after this time will be at the Secretary’s discretion.

1.  All entries in the Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Classes must be correctly named and labelled, except in classes arranged for effect or decoration.

2.  STAGING TIMES. The hall will be open for staging:- EARLY SHOW from 7.00 PM to 10.00 PM on the Friday night prior to the Show and from 7.30 am to 10.00 am on the Saturday morning of the Show. LATE SHOW:- from 7.00 PM to 10.00 PM on the Friday night and from 7.30 am to 10.00 am on the Saturday, when the hall will be closed for judging. EXHIBITS MUST NOT BE REMOVED OR INTERFERED WITH IN ANY WAY BEFORE PRESENTATION OF THE AWARDS.

3.  All exhibits must have been grown by the exhibitor, except in classes for blooms arranged for effect or decoration.

4.  Any person exhibiting any produce belonging to another, and entering it as their own, or exercising any artifice to deceive the Judges or otherwise attempting to gain prizes by unfair means, shall forfeit all claims to such prizes as may be awarded to them, and the Committee reserve themselves power to refuse future Entries from any such exhibitor without assigning any reason.

5.  All exhibits must be prepared on the tables provided for that purpose, and not in the hall.

6.  All the usual care will be taken for the safety of the Exhibits and Exhibitors property, but the Society will not be held responsible for any loss or damage however caused.

7.  Any objection must be made in writing not later than 4.00 PM on the day of each Show, accompanied by a deposit of £1 which will be refunded if the objection is bona-fide. The decision of the Executive Committee will be final.

8.  The judges have the power to reserve or reduce prizes when the exhibits are not considered to possess sufficient merit, or in special cases to recommend additional prizes.

9.  JUDGING. All exhibits of Chrysanthemums will be judged in accordance with the National Chrysanthemum Society's Rules and the National Society's Register and Supplements shall be the standard works of reference in all questions of classification and nomenclature that may arise to any exhibit in any class.

All Exhibits of Dahlias will be judged in accordance with National Dahlia Society Rules.

RULES FOR EXHIBITORS CONT.

10.  All exhibits of Photography will be judged at the discretion of the Photography judge and in accordance with the rules stipulated.

11.  The decision of the Judges shall in all cases be final.

12.  The Society's vases (free of charge) must be used in all Chrysanthemum Classes and in all Dahlia Classes in the EARLY SHOW, and in all Chrysanthemum Classes in the LATE SHOW. Small vases are to be used in three bloom classes (except LATE sprays, which may be shown in large vases). Large vases are to be used in five bloom classes of Chrysanthemums, if possible.

13.  Any exhibits not claimed by 4.30 PM on the day of the Show will become the property of the Society and will be sold for Society funds.

14.  All matters not provided for in these Rules shall be left to the discretion of the Executive Committee, whose decision is final.

15.  All exhibits of Vegetables to be named, where possible.

16.  Garments in Handicraft sections should not have been worn.

ALL EXHIBITORS TO NOTE CHANGES TO STAGING TIMES ON THE MORNING OF THE SHOWS. JUDGING TO COMMENCE AT 10:15 AM PROMPT.

PRESIDENTS TROPHY

THE FAMILY OF HERBERT HARRISON HAVE GIVEN A TROPHY TO THE DRIFFIELD CHRYSANTHEMUM SOCIETY WHICH WILL BE CALLED THE PRESIDENTS TROPHY.

THIS AWARD WILL BE PRESENTED TO THE BEST EXHIBIT IN THE WHOLE SHOW WHICH WILL BE SELECTED COLLECTIVELY BY ALL THE JUDGES. THE AWARD WILL ALTERNATE ON A YEAR BY YEAR BASIS.

THIS YEAR THE TROPHY WILL BE PRESENTED TO THE WINNER OF THE BEST EXHIBIT IN THE LATE FLOWERING SHOW ON SATURDAY 19th NOVEMBER.
