Class Conundrums

First think about an estimate of what the answer will be.

Solve the problem using the array and the place value blocks. Record your partial products as we did on the board. Then, think about if your estimate was correct. Call me over to check your work.

  1. Edward noticed that there were 14 grimy grips in 1 box. He received a shipment of 12 boxes. How many grimy grips did Edward receive for the school store?

2.  Gabrielle and Madi were taking pictures on their vacation in the Bahamas. If they used 11 rolls of film, how many pictures did they take? There were 24 pictures on a roll.

3.  There are 15 players on Miranda’s soccer team. Nike donates 22 socks to each member of the team. How many socks did Nike donate to the entire team?

4.  Sofia and Coral went shopping. Together the girls purchased 31 cookies for each of 12 classrooms here at school. How many cookies did the girls purchase? Do you want peanut butter or oatmeal?

5.  Jonah and Varun hit the ping-pong ball back and forth 13 times before someone finally missed. If they did this 14 times, how many times would they have hit the ping pong ball?

8.  Logan keeps his stamp collection in a magnificent gold stamp album. He places 14 stamps on a page and has 23 pages in his album. How many stamps does Logan have in his album?

9.  Mrs. Best eats 32 pieces of cauliflower a day. How many pieces of cauliflower does she eat in 3 weeks?

10.How many math problems could you do in 24 minutes, if you did 11 math problems in 1 minute?
