CLASS POLICIES AND EXPECTATIONS

This is primarily a participatory class utilizing classroom tools, technology, and resources to createtwo-dimensional designs within specified parameters. Length of projects will vary greatly in complexity and completion times. Student art projects will focus on various types of mediums, materials and process. We will utilize a variety of painting techniques, mediums and surfaces. A few of the techniques include paint on canvas, water color and pastels. To pay for materials a $25.00 lab fee must be paid at the bookkeeper’s office (phone: (253) 931-4895)beginning the 2nd week of semester

GRADING AND EVALUATION:

Grades are based on work completed; from start to finish. Approximately 2 weeks after an assignment is presented, a grade of 50% will be entered into the grade book until the item is turned in and graded. These late grades will be indicated by an ending in a decimal point of xx.3 or xx.7. Graded items will end in xx.0 or xx.5.

The percentage of the weighted point totals will be assigned grades as follows:

A- / 91 / C / 73
B+ / 88 / C- / 70
B / 85 / D+ / 66
B- / 81 / D / 60
F / Below 60%

Lower then 60% will result in a failing grade for this class all late assignments are due one week before AHS grading date (progress reports, quarter and semester grades). Absent students will need to arrange with the instructor on an individual basis to access art lab. No makeup grades for unexcused absences.

  1. Assignments: Painting using Acrylics, watercolor and pastels are the bulk of the projects. Some sketches,mixed media Projects will be included. A large portion of the work assigned must be completed in the art lab, room 100. The materials and tools are generally only available in the art studio. A substantial portion of the work must be completed in class so instructor can evaluate the process, not just the final product.
  2. Leadership: Independent painting. This isprimarilyself-directed activities to enrich self and/or community. You will have independent projects required that are self directed artworks with approval by instructor...
  3. In-Class Activities: Some assignments will be included in this area, they may include group activates, warm-ups, and creative experimentation. Cleanup is a daily required activity. Cleanup includes general classroom areas, tools and individual work area.
