DRAFT PROCEDURES
  1. Each team will have a team number assigned by the League Registrar and the number assigned is for the seasonal year. This number is blind picked at the coaches meeting, skills evaluation, or draft.
  1. Each team in the upper divisions U11 thru U19 is allowed 5 retentions. In the lower divisions, U7 thru U10 they are allowed 3. The League Registrar must approve these retentions.
  1. Only the following are eligible for the draft:

SPRING

  • Player must be registered in the league.

FALL

  • Player must be registered in the league.
  • Physically attend skills evaluation. (If a player does not attend skills evaluation the player may not be retained, nor drafted, they can only be drawn from the hat, no exceptions).
  1. The draft will start promptly on time as announced to all Coaches. Coaches not present or who do not have a representative present will have their players drawn or drafted by a designee of the Board of Directors.
  1. Assigned team numbers will be listed numerically on a board and number of retention players shown. An example is shown below. The "X" represents the approved retentions.

  1. (FALL ONLY) The draft will proceed from top to bottom until all teams have equal numbers. Then will proceed top to bottom to top until all players are drafted. In the example shown above Team 205 will take the first pick. The next round 205 then 206. The 3rd round 205 then 206. The 4th round 202, 205, 206. 5th round 202, 205, 206. The 6th round starts with 201, 202, 203, 204, 205, 206 gets 2 picks and it goes up 205, 204 till you get to the top. Team 201 will get 2 picks and it goes down. This continues until all players who have been to skills evaluation are chosen in draft.
  1. When all players have been drafted, then keeping the same procedure/order the players who did not attend skills evaluation are drawn from the hat and placed on teams until all players are exhausted.
  1. Special restrictions:
  • In an effort to make the BU18/GU18 teams balanced, player ages 14 and 15 (U16) will be drafted/picked separately from players ages 16 and 17 (U18).
  • In an effort to make the BU16/GU16 teams balanced, player ages 12 and 13 (U14) will be drafted/picked separately from players ages 14 and 15 (U16).
  • Siblings requesting to play on the same team are counted as 2 or 3 picks and this team is skipped in the next round for the appropriate number of picks.
  • Rideshare requests are not honored. Specific coaching requests are not honored. Any special placements determined by the board of directors for safety/health concerns will be noted.
  1. Coaches must have a current Livescan authorization on file with the league/Calsouth. Any coach, who does not, will NOT be given his team registration forms. No coach may hold any type of practice unless he is in possession of the original registration form for his or her players since the forms must be available at any league function involving the players.
  1. All coaches will be required to turn in uniform orders for his or her players before leaving the draft as well as pick practice fields and times if not already done.

Recommendations

  • Come prepared.
  • Place your player requests in order by player name and number from the skills evaluation.
  • Please pay attention and make sure you cross players off your list as they are drafted.
  • If you're new and need help, show up early and ask questions.
